well wii sports looks worse with component cables and certain parts of zelda also looked worse butsince got my comp cables i havent switched back to test other games.AsadMahdi59
So I'm not the only one who noticed then? Good I was thinking that it was just my setup. That's too bad..... Hopefully more games will take advantage of the 480p. Is there any way you can tell?
My component cables seem ok, all the bad its done is make the screen look really dark_N_R_G_
that's not right... component cables do the following things:
-better colour
-better color separation
-better black values (more detail in dark areas)
-make the image sharper (also the jaggies)
-less artifacts
if your screen supports progressive scan, you can do that with component cables. smoother image with less artifacts and less jaggies in DIAGONAL lines: this is because normaly the image is build up in two times (first the even lines, then the uneven lines). with progressive scan the image is build up entirely each frame.
[QUOTE="furtherfan"]let me guess, you have a HD LCD screen?skingus
Which type of HDTV should you use if not LCD? Do plasmas cut back on jaggies? I could be wrong, but I don't think so.
doesn't really matter, but LCD is really sharp. some lcd's have some anti aliassing in the tv... but that mostly means it's less sharp.
wii games are mostly jaggie. on a HDTV is just more appearent

So what are you saying?brightness should NOT be a problem. at all.

But IT is
tha's either something with your tv or something with the Wii.. or the cables.
My Wii looks substantially worse on my HDTV with component cables than it does on my SDTV with composite. :?

in what way?

Jaggies are emphasised mainly. Having said that, I've only got Wii Sports, Zelda and Red Steel.
Wii was designed for a Standard tv. on a Big LCD, and with component cables, the jaggies will only become MORE appearent...
it's bets to play wii games on a screen not bigger than 32 inch....
tha's either something with your tv or something with the Wii.. or the cables.
Well i no my wii and cables are fine because my friend put in his 360 with his component cables and it was still dark. Dont get me wrong the quality is much better with component cables it just makes it more dark.
Maybe it is my TV but i really dout it as its quite new and decent, but it dont really matter as the games are still playable.

try putting it in 480i
if the problems are gone, the screen does not support progressive scan
Putting the wii in 480i or my TV, in my wii settings it is already on EDTV_N_R_G_
the Wii in 480i with component cables.

This isn't entirely true. My wii looks better on my bigger 42inch than on my 32inch. Why? It's simple, better tv. Better quality digital scaler. Better image quality, less jaggies.

Yup thats what i have it on normally, would it make a difference if i had component cables in but put it to 60ghz or what ever it is?

iv gopt 32po lcd tv with component cable and my wii set at 480p and it is just better than sdtv with composite and 480i
maybe you buy the cheapest component cable thats why
Component cables enhance EVERYTHING good and bad.Jaysonguy
It makes you realise that the Wii will be replaced in two or three years.

Maybe it provides a better contrast to the picture and since he's been used to the brightness blending, it looks darker now that the contrast is better.
I could be wrong.
My cables did exactly what I expected, it made everything more 'clear' while showing all of the jagged 'round' edges.
Try this at home or the office. Take a stack of sticky notes and make the best circle you can. Then takea magnifying to examine the quality of your circle.
Let me know when the edge is 'smooth.' I won't be holding my breath.
im getting these tonight.. oh also ive got my wii set up on a Samsung 42' LCD, and when i went to settings to change it from normal tv to HD it wont let me, any help?
I have a 20" SDTV. Is it worth buying the component cables? The TV cannot do 480p, only 480i. BTW, Wii games look GREAT on a SDTV if you set it up correctly, no jaggies here :DAlbertoML
Yes, you wont get progressive scan but you will get brighter colors and deeper blacks.

It's because you don't have component cables.
Once you get them you'll be able to set it.
