So my Wii is currently in for repairs and i would like to get the component cables before it comes back. Now, my question is will the picture quality still be better if i don't have a 480p compatible TV? And should i get those S-video things i saw? My TV is only 480i and i have the Component inputs in the back, should i get them?

If your TV cant use them then they wont even plug in... So yeah, and the S-Video will have about the same quaity as the cables that came with the Wii...

Even though your TV is only 480i, if you plug in the Wii via Component Cables, you will still be able to notice a pretty descent improvement.  The component cables split up the five signals into three cables as apposed to sending all of the signals over one cable.  This causes an increase in contrast, sharpness and color clarity.  I would always suggest using component over s-video or composite.

He's not right

You have 480i so you're still going to get a better picture with brighter colors and deeper blacks, what you wont get is progressive scan. (hence the p and the end of 480)
