I've been reading about Wii Connect 24 and I don't think it is something I really need. I read that possibly (possibly a rumor) that lieaving this on could cause the wii to get damaged. Given the alternative, I'd much rather leave it off.

So, how to I know if my Wii Connect 24 is turned on and if it is, how do I turn it off?

Also, I know this doesn't belong in the thread but to prevent an extra post, do all Wiimote charging stations plug into the Wii? The one I have does, you have to leave the remote plugged in for 12 to 7 hours and I'm wondering if this is something I should avoid.

Thanks! 8)

WiiConnect24 is not needed, but it also will not harm your system. The problem that you are hearing about that is supposedly caused by WiiConnect24 has to do with the heatsink not being placed on the GPU properly. I've had my Wii connected to WiiConnect24 and on standby since launch and it is still perfectly fine. I actually think it is a good idea to keep the Wii on standby (WiiConnect24 needs to be on then) because if you do have a defective Wii (GPU overheats) you will find out quicker and will be able to get it replaced for free from Nintendo.

Oh yeah, don't know the answer to your other question so you'll have to wait for somebody else to answer that.

Not true

If you have a defective console it will fail no matter what.

still this feature seems like its being used wrong. shouldnt we be connected 24/7 just like it says? when i go to the vc my system still has to connect to the internet, and when i play a game online it also has to connect, even when this feature was on, i thought im always supposed to be connected?

You are connected for messages and updates to the Wii and other channels (such as Check Mii Out)

I'm not too sure what else you could do with it.

Maybe a smoother transition to the Shop Channel?

Besides that things like the Internet Channel are applications that have to start and for online games you need to log on.

I mean you wouldn't want your Wii updating on it's own so that's out the window and messages and announcements come through well now.

ya but on other systems u just connect to the internet once when u turn it on and it takes like 2 seconds and you get all your messages instantly when you do this since your accounts online not on your system. then you dont have to connect when going into a shop thing or playing a game.

i just wish the wii was always connected. when i play the wii i find myself connecting in like 3 different places for certain features.

wii connect 24 is designed for u to have the latest news from nintendo sent to ur wii if ur there or not. it is not needed b/c u will recieve messages from ninetndo when u turn your wii on and connect. i personoly like to keep it on. and they make it easy to notice when u have messages b/c of the blinking. it does not harm ur system this rumor whas started because the wii does tend to get hot when its on so if it is constantly sending a wifi signal it would tend to get hot. It does not overheat thouhg.

As i said before it is not needed unless u want to get messags from nintendo, messages like if there is a new wii system update available or a message like nintendo telling u to get those wii remote covers.

overall it is good to have, but sometimes u will get a useless message like one for the check mii out channel, which i will advise telling ur wii to stop recieving messages from it b/c it is hella annoying

i'd say theirs no need for it to be on right now since all you can do is get messages + updates from nintendo and others.

until we see some real usage from it, theirs no real point to keeping it on unless you want messages from friends.

Being connected to the internet doesn't mean you're always connected to everything on the internet. For example, when you click on a link in your browser, it still has to connect to that site's servers before transferring any data. The same is true for the Shop Channel and online games. If we all stayed connected to those servers 24/7, that would put a major load on the servers that doesn't need to be there.

i wish their was a freinds channel, their you chould have a universal freinds list with miis and stuff. that way your freinds carry over to every game you play online so you dont need a ton of new freind codes with each game. that what i thought miss were gonna be when they were first announced.

So if I disconnect Wii Connect, does that mean the messages from Nintendo would no longer come in at all? (I don't think I have gotten any since I first got the Wii about a month ago?)

If I would still get the message, I suppose I don't really need to leave it on, but if not then I guess I should keep it on!

Thanks

dosent matter if you use wiiconnect youll still get the messages when you turn the system on.

or at least you should thats how every other console works, i would assume its no different here.

Thanks. I checked my settings, I have Wii Connect on, Standby on and then the light on Dim. I didn't change any of th settings, but now my e-mails don't come in from Wii sports, like when you get a medal in one of the events, but my e-mails come in for the daily training thing. Not sure if it had something to do with that or not. It's not really a big deal, I'm just wondering why the stopped.

Thanks again!

I know. I've not been getting e-mails from Nintendo lately, I don't know if they have sent any or not. But I have been getting the e-mails where it tells you your age each day, in Wii Sports, and then the e-mails if you reach pro level, get a medal, etc. but now all I have been getting is e-mails with the age.

Those aren't from Nintendo those are from the game.

Yeah, I know. I was just saying that I've not received any e-mails from Nintendo, regarding new games in the store and such, since I first got my Wii, which was at the end of December... I'm not sure if any have come since then or not, but I've not received any.
