I think the review got a few things right and a few things wrong. First of all, they are right in bringing up that BMI is flawed if taken as the only measure of one's health (Arnold Schwarzenegger would be considered overweight if the only criterion was BMI). They are also right that Wii Fit is not the "magic bullet" to health and wellness, but it is a part of a whole regimen, that could include a trip to the gym or a walk around the park.
That said, I think they were a little harsh and nitpicky with some of their complaints, as some have already noted (so what if you have to unlock things; that's the point, to boost replay value, isn't it?). Similarly, I like the idea of unlocked items only being available to the profiles that unlocked them; nothing irks me more than to have someone borrow my game and play it to death and unlock everything, spoiling the game for me. Further, as a reminder, Wii Sports only got a 7.0 give or take. The Wii Fit software, much like the Wii Sports game, is simply a bonus when purchasing the hardware. I'm sure someone will come up with something more in line with GS's vision of the software if Wii Fit takes off.
Ultimately, Wii Fit's goal is to get as many Balance Boards into Wii households as possible, to set up the next wave of software releases that take better advantage of this amazing piece of hardware. Considering I have my copy reserved and waiting on me, it's done its job.
