Maybe one has heavy bones and is thin as a stick but he will still be classified as fat on Wii Fit.lancea34
Or maybe he's just fat? It's not like there aren't any fat kids around.

The girl was solidly built, but not fat. Even thos with 100kg of muscles are classified as FAT in Wii Fit.

how can a little girl be "solidly built"? like pure muscles? they should release a body picture of the girl so people will know what they meant by "solidly built"
I heard on the radio that some kid bought Wii Fit and got on the balance board and the game told him he was too fat to play, so his parents "sued" Nintendo. I lauged when I heard it but my mom was concerned. I later learned that the balance board holds up to 300+ pounds so I'm starting to think this is a lie. What do you thinkRed_Trigger
The balance board can measure up to 320 lbs, it can hold well over 600 without being damaged. Iwata said this himeself(I think it was Iwata)
What I want to know is, did the parents buy the game? If so, wouldn't they be 'suggesting' something to their kid anyway.
The most 'fit' person in our family has the second highest BMI rating on the game. Our child is nearly all muscle and bone, but they are 'overweight' by Wii Fit standards.
So even if this went to court, the defense team could use my kid to prove that the measurements aren't precise for kids. :)
Great story though, I needed a laugh today.

i agree. I'd like to see a picture of this kid myself.
Here he is:
See? He isn't fat...
Wii Fit's Body Mass Index measurement isn't too precise with children. Maybe one has heavy bones and is thin as a stick but he will still be classified as fat on Wii Fit.lancea34Those would have to be some pretty dense bones... I guess if the kid has been doing hard body training then that scenario would fit, but I sincerely doubt that is the case. And this whole article that is referenced here took place in the UK during the launch week.

yeah, good point. But also, i think its great for people already in shape, because its simply the best tool to work on your balance (which is invaluable to me because it helps my martial arts). Plus , it is FUN!
BMI is notoriously inaccurate. The body is made up of many different materials with huge differences in density. A simple weight and height formula cannot take these into account properly on an individual basis and as such works for probably close to 50% of the world population. The optimists say, "well that's half and it's better than anything else we have" and so it gets used.
Even if someone were to sue (which I doubt), Nintendo has the money to fight it and win or settle. It's difficult to place a monitary sum as the child hasn't been adversly effected in anyway that doesn't happen on a regular basis in human culture. Let's face it, a kid thats actually fat is constantly reminded of their size by everything around them and Nintendo isn't their biggest problem.

I'm beggin ya. Turn off the video. My stomach hurts from laughin and I'm physically unable to stop lookin at it.
Anyways yeah ... despite what the balance board states it can hold and despite the fact that you're supposed to check with a doc before starting ANY exercise regimen, someone's gonna get ticked when they're told they're too portly to fit a peripheral. Does it mean you're fat? Maybe. Maybe you just a dang big kid. It happens. But the company gotta do what makes em the most money.
How many times a year do ya think a theme park gets sued over having chubster weight limits imposed on their rides?
I'm sorry. But I don't wanna go down on the Batman ride because Braveheart's Bestie decided to sue Six Flags for the right to ride large.
People will sue over anything, so this story doesn't surprise me much. Return the crap to the store and stop cryin. If you're too big, yer too big. I mean dang - this was developed in Japan - home of the thin person! Did ya really think at that weight you were gonna make the body mass index grade? Nah. Yer mom is just devastated due to her divorce and worries that your Nintendo might hurt your giant feelers. Get over it, biggun.
I hate PC BS almost as much as I hate the fact that I bought RedSteel.

More accurately, classified as "fat" by the standard BMI rating scale. BMI has its limitations to be sure, but it is generally accurate for the average person who has reached physical maturity. Athletes with high muscle density and low body fat that are "overweight" or even "obese" by BMI standards are *not* average. The bigger problem though is that Nintendo chose not to include information on the limitations of BMI, and most people aren't going to take the initiative to research for themselves.
A body fat percentage test is much more accurate than BMI, but obviously the logistics of packing that into a game to be used by untrained consumers is impossible.

Yeah, Nintendo never thought body-builders would play the game.:P
I wanna get this game for my fiancee. IDK how many people have myspace, but if you type "wii fit" and "girlfriend" you can see this vid of this dude's girlfriend playing the hula hoop part without pants. XD PERIPHERALS FTW!
Anyway, if Wii Fit said she's fat then whatever. It's just a game. It's not Richard f***ing Simmons. Jeez.
Twilite-
If she ASKS you for WiiFit I say get it for her. If she DIDN'T ask for it, I'd say you're asking for a lump on the head or at least a few mighty cold nights on the couch if you bring it home as a present, haha.
"Baby! I know you like video games so I got you this one to help ya shed those extra pounds!"
Thump.
