So, while I was playing SBB last week I began to notice that the title screen looks awful, and there was some green pixles appearing. After doing some reading I believe that this is due to the graphics card failing. Later I also noticed those same green dots at the home screen. So I was wondering if anyone could answer some questions.

First, does this mean that my graphics card is doomed? The green dots don't really bother me right now, can I like slap on one of those aftermarket external wii fans to prevent further degregation or something.

Also, for those of you who have had this problem, how much does nintendo charge to fix it? I got my wii at launch, so the warrenty is expired, still I personally think that Nintendo should cover it seeing that it seems to be at least fairly prevelent, yeah good luck with that. When I called the other day to Nintendo they wanted $75 but would knock it down to $56.

Your Wii is toast

There's a problem with one series of Wii's that the heatsink wasn't correctly attached to the board and therefore they overheat over time. There's no way to prevent it.

Have it fixed.

If you don't mind me asking, when you got it replaced was it still under warrenty? If not did you have to pay for a re0placement? I'd like mine replaced but they want like $75, were you able to shame them in some way to replace it for you? Thanks for the help.

a similar thing happened to me and I had to pay around 100$ (forgot the actual #) and my new Wii had all my saves (had to redownload my VC games for free though and the Miis in my plaza are now considered imported) and now it works perfectly.

The DS's dead pixel problem isn't like the Wii's. The DS's problem is with the LCD screen, and that problem persists with all LCDs. The Wii's problem is with the graphics card.

i know, im just pointing the effect looks similar. obviously it isnt dead pixel, because otherwise when he watched TV he would still see the green dots, and always in the same place.
