Like I said im not asking if the Wii needs one. We now a Wii needs one. But lets think about how come the Wii does not have one yet. We all know it is possible since the DS has one. The real reason we dont have one is because of the children. The Wii is suited for everyone and that includes children. There to afraid the wii will be on the next Dateline episode. But come on the Wii has parental controls bilt in. Why cant Nintendo just put an update on the parental controls so it stops all headset action. this will stop the kiddies from hearing grown up things. The Wii could also impliment (sp) some mute features. We know its possible to mute stupis kids online we have seen it done before. Does anyone else agree with this?dinofan01
I actually heard on a Wiire podcast that that's sort of what Nintendo did with the update before last. They made it so parents could control who their child communicates with on their Wii.

interesting i did not hear that. well then hopefully nintendo will say this month "guess what bw2 and brawl has a headset"
I don't get why everybody needs a head set for video games. What is the point? If you need a headset to talk to your friends while playing against them, why don't you just invite them over to you place to play and talk.gamershq
Probably because people don't want to go over (Gas getting too expensive -_-). Plus you can play with a huge variety of people, and skill levels, not just you're friends, make new friends online. A Headset really changes the way online games are played, it's a lot easier to communicate.

Agreed. Voice chat can be between friends, or to make new friends. The second there IS a headset release, i'll be looking on this forum to find other people who a) want to play the same game b) are my kind of peeps. If they arent, i'll just not game with them. pretty simple.
oh... and..Whats the point of parental controls if theres nothing to control access to? there HAS to be a headset coming...

Dont they have parental controls to prevent the Wii from playing a game based on ESRB rating? Sry if Im wrong I cant recall.Like I said im not asking if the Wii needs one. We now a Wii needs one. Did you come up with all that alone or have you been following the Wii community discussions for the last 10 months?
I just went in the parental controls section in the Wii options about an hour ago. It does indeed allow parents to disallow all quote, "user-to-user communication." This is good because it shows that one of barriers for on-line communication with the Nintendo Wii, which was the fact that Nintendo didn't want to endanger small kids, has been accounted for and now other reasons can be thought of and discussed as to why we may or may not see a mic for the Wii in the near future.Nintendoesomg, how many times do i have to say this, this restricts u from sending messages to ur friend,i checked

It might be announced in the next couple of days to as nintendo tries to take away hype from Halo 3 like they did with the online Brawl update. I think this is a good strategy cause personally rightnow i like my Wii but seeing Halo 3 come out and seeing how the wii still doesn't have a headset makes me want to go buy a xbox 360 just for the online and a couple good games.gamershq
same, right now my wii is just collecting dust, there is not one game that appeals to me right now, except zelda but i beat that ages ago... now i wish i had bought a 360 with halo 3 coming out... but i guess i'll just have to wait till christmas for some money... -_- the only games i see worth getting right now are, SMG and SSBB, and i guess BWii
has anybody tried to write a formal petition to Nintendo about this, it would be very nice. Maybe if Nintendo understood the importance of this, we would have some luck.bigcalkenobi
Boo to petitions. Yes, a headset is needed, but that would do nothing. I'm quite sure Nintendo knows that they haven't put out a headset for the Wii.
wii headsets would make playing online shooters and other games much more fun. for example, when playing medal of honor or sumthin u can shout into the microphone something like OMG WAT TEH FUX NOOB UR DEAD HAHAaznpr1d34eva
Prime example of the number one deterrent of a headset and the reason I won't be getting one even in the event that said device is made available...

That's the reason i hate Halo2 well one of a couple i guess.
a headset would be good but i'd want a feature to turn it off unless im in a friend match. that'd probably keep the parents happy right? put a pasword on it so their child can't talk to just anyone? Also it would give those of us who don't want to chat it up with some random guy the option to not have voices coming through the TV.
so kind of a toggle thing would be cool.

Yea, or, for another example, when you're playing with friends in some type of team based shooter, and your friend says into the mic "you should go left, i'll go right, then throw a flash bang into them and I'll shoot from behind." Anyone ever have that happen to them, so annoying! Oh man. I hate being able to effectivly plan attacks.

It has it's good points and it's bad points. You've definitely presented a valid reason for having communication options available. I'm just not the type of person who plays a lot of team-based games online so it doesn't affect me as much as it would you.

For one thing, I NEVER said that "user-to-user communication" meant that it was referring to voice communication, so don't put words into my mouth or misinterpret what my point was. Second of all, regardless of what communication is done from the Wii, it can be controlled with the parental controls. My point was that one of the problems with voice chat and communicating with people one doesn't know personally, or personal enough to know their friend codes, was Nintendo's policy of safety and privacy for their customers, in which this solves the problem because parents now have the power to control whether or not their child communicates with other people on their Wii, therefor resolving the problem.
Well I heard that one is in the works for the wii. But when it is coming out i didnt hear. But yeai mean parental controls would fix the whole protection online thing.eryinmw
Source?
im not sure if this will work, considering im only 14 but, How about if instead of creating a new product, they find a use for those usb ports in the back (besides the usb keyboard support)and juast add support for maybe some sort of usb wireless headset... and then instead of nintendo creating a whole new style of headset, they create on where you plug in a small InfraRed or bluetooth dongle in the back and making wireless headsete... simple, and wire free.;););););););););););)
sorry about the long post.
well i dont know about a head set but here are some links to a wireless headphones http://www.cluboverclocker.com/reviews/sound/TurtleBeach/EarForceW3/index.asp

Nintendo doesn't even need to make a headset! We should just be able to use a USB headset and plug it into our Wiis. It'll be hard not to pull it out, but at least we'll be able to talk to people!The_Gr8_Leon
Nintendo would still have to make firmware updates in order for people to use the plethora of headsets that are out there that aren't designed for the Wii. They would then have to release the software that would allow Wii users to communicate to other people through the Wii outside of games. Developers would then have to somehow incorporate these unlicensed headsets into their games as means of communication.
You probably weren't serious when you made this post, but still, Nintendo isn't going to allow people to use their own headsets for on-line communication, ever.
