What are the jackets supposed to be protecting? I'm confused or is this just a accessory used for nothing?

Gives you a better grip, and they now will have a big cushion at the end so if you smack people in the head, like i have done, it will be downy soft.

That's actually a pretty good question, because I was confuzed at first about that also. I'm pretty sure they are to prevent accidental throwing of the wii remote but I could be mistaken.
