Well, I got a Wii so I could play video games with my family. I bought games which I thought were multiplayer but now find are really only partly multiplayer and/or, annoyingly, someone has to play through a bunch of games/levels to get to the multiplayer parts. My DS & I sat down the other night to try Raving Rayman Rabids & we couldn't play the game together until one of us played through a series of levels. Not what we were expecting so we pulled out Mario Kart instead (great game but we wanted to try a new one together and were disappointed - it seemed like too much work in order to get to the MP at that point in the evening). I have found the Wii to be mostly a single player experience. Fun for that, however, I have misunderstood the "multiplayer" aspect in the description of many games.
Anyway, I would appreciate any clarifications,corrections,and/or additions to the following list for a local multiplayer Wii experience ("TRUE MP" means you can play multiplayer games right away and "LOCKED MP" means that a bunch of games/levels have to be played through and unlocked in single player mode before the multiplayer games can beused) (updated to reflect responses below :)):
- Boom Blox: TRUE MP (take turns, each player using their own controller, however, very little multiplayer stuff)
- Boom Blox Bash Party: TRUE MP (take turns, each player using their own controller)?
- Call of Duty World at War: Cooperative MP but a second player can just help out a bit & does not play fully
- DDR Hottest Party 2: TRUE MP (players play against each other at the same time; need two dance pad controllers)
- de Blob: Some activities are MP, however, you cannot play the actual game story MP?? I thought this was a TRUE MP.
- Lego Star Wars The Complete Saga: TRUE MP? or LOCKED MP? Is MP cooperative or against each other?
- Link's Crossbow Training: TRUE MP (take turns, each player using their own controller)
- Marble Saga Kororinpa: I don't understand what the MP aspect is - ??
- MLB Power Pros 2008: TRUE MP (players are teams playing against each other at the same time in a baseball game, each using own controller)
- Mario Kart Wii: TRUE MP (players play against each other at the same time, each using their own controller)
- Raving Rayman Rabids: LOCKED MP (once unlocked, each player uses own controller? take turns? play at same time?)
- Super Mario Galaxy: Cooperative MP but a second playercanjust help out a bit & does not play fully
- Super Smash Brothers Brawl: TRUE MP (players play against each other at the same time, each using own controller)
- Tetris Party: TRUE MP? each player uses own controller?
- Wario Ware Smooth Moves: LOCKED MP (once unlocked, which takes a while, players take turns, sharing a controller)
- We Ski and We Skii & Snowboard: TRUE MP? or LOCKED MP? each player uses own controller?
- Wii Sports: TRUE MP (players play against each other at the same time or taking turns depending on the sport, each using their own controller)
- Mario Party 8: TRUE MP (up to 4 or more players taking turns but each event is a game where everyone plays at the same time)
- Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles: TRUE MP (2 players coop, play at the same time)
- The House of the Dead:Overkill: TRUE MP
- Mario Strikers Charged: TRUE MP (players play against each other at the same time, each using own controller)
- Pro Evolution Soccer 2009: TRUE MP (competitive?)
- FIFA 09 Soccer All-Play: TRUE MP (competitive?)
- BombermanBlast Wiiware: TRUE MP (competitive?)
- Fish'em All! WiiWare: TRUE MP ? (each player uses own remote? coop or competitive?)
- New Super Mario Brothers Wii: TRUE MP (competitive, each player using own remote ?) (not published yet)
- Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Echoes of Time: LOCKED MP? TRUE MP? (coop or competitive ? ...multi-platform... a player can use a DS and the other can use the Wii... so no worries for lack of controllers....)
- MadWorld: LOCKED MP (competitive; but very very MP sections)
- Excitebots: TRUE MP (?) (competitive for 2 players w/each using own remote)
- Wii Play: LOCKED MP (comptetitive, each player using own remote; unlocking only takes 10 minutes)
- Swords & Soldiers: TRUE MP (2-player competitive)
I would love to see this kind of info more clearly stated in the games reviews.
Any input will be appreciated - and thanks for all previous help on this forum!
