Here is the message I sent him:

"You guys probably get a lot of emails and don't have much time to look at them. But I was just wondering how the progress for the Wii version is doing. I'm patient and can wait but I'm just curious, so do you think maybe by the end of year? Thanks"

Edmund's reply:

"still looking into option so far wii isnt looking good. no one seems to think there is any money in retail and wiiware isnt possible at this point.

still searching though
-Edmund"

Man, I really hope this game makes it to the Wii... and from what I understand the file size of the game is too big for WiiWare and on their websitethey said they can't break apart the game into two separate downloads. They also said on their website that they would like to get it onto a disc and sell it at retail in stores for 20 dollars, but in this reply it sounds like he said they wouldn't make any money if it was retail. So It's starting to seem this game won't make it to Wii :(

This is all Nintendo's fault. 80mb for a WiiWare game maximum file size. Seriously Nintendo???

That really sucks. I got the game on 360 when it was on sale for 10 euro, and its one of the best downloadable games I ever played. Hope it makes it to Wii in some form.

I'm glad Nintendo has the size limit they have for Wiiware games. I personally don't want to be downloading 500+ block games, taking up all of my storage. Besides, it's not like Wii owners haven't been able to get any good games because of the limit. There are plenty of games that are awesome already available.

I heard this game was great, and I actually wanted it myself, but after the way they've treated Wii owners, I doubt I would get it even if it made a landing there. I think the Wii is best for simple games like this, not due to bias, but because it has such a simple controller (I prefer the NES style grip). That said, I think they should have made the game for Wiiware, and then jazzed (yes, jazzed) it up for the other consoles that allow larger downloads. As I recall, they did kind of promise the game to Wii players and then say, "oops, we forgot to make it compatible."

Well, that's too bad for them, then.

I tried this as a flash game, and while I could see the potential, it still sucked. For this game, with such "slippery" controlling, keyboard controls = fail + hand cramps. It needs a regular controller, ideally one with an analog stick. But I'm not about to buy a regular controller for my computer so I can play it on there, and I'm not going to buy another console for this.

I've managed to make it since 2006 with only the Wii. I've been tempted by Fallouts and non-Wii 007 games, but Super Meat Boy is not at all tempting me to make that jump. They can release on Wii, or forget about this buyer. :|

It is a truly awesome game, one of the best dl games this gen easily imo!

I personally got it for steam and I can see where their coming from. Theirs just a lot of restrictions on the wii that would hamper its experience, the lack of file size means things will have to be cut and the lack of the downloadable online levels would REALLY suck! I'm sure theres other reasons behind this on wiiware as well and the retail game is obviously not a good idea.

It really sucks to because wii only owners are missing out on a truly awesome game, one that was promised to them from the start! ouch :|

Dang that sucks, I was really looking forward to playing Super Meat Boy. I guess the WiiWare size restriction is rather low... although I'm not sure how big the actual size of the game is.

*shrug* oh well. Guess I'll just have to play more DKCR.

more specifically, the wiiware limit that exists mostly because of the wii's limited HD. and for those wondering, the game's 300MB big.

I can't imagine this simple game to be that huge?!

Is it all in the cutscenes?

Worst case any old pc should be able to run the game.

Well if you think of it in terms of World of Goo, Super Meat Boy has something like 350 levels while World of Goo only has about 50. They have a similar level of quality in both music and art, so.... I'd imagine the sheer number of levels is what adds up, even with some shared music and art assets.

Considering they spent time and effort (ie money) developing the game, as well as buying the dev kit, that's a pretty silly theory.

The Wii's size limit didn't stop Sega and Capcom from putting their games on the wiiware and they are both 170mb on xbla.

It becomes more and more objectively true that Wiiware desparately needs to raise its size limits. Imagine all the games we missed out on that we never even heard about. We have a real life example (Super Meat Boy) that has shown us the limit is holding back fun and creative games on the platform.

The memory limit is hurting developers on a creative level and no one should support that. Its blind fanboyism at that point.

Agreed. Nintendo really needs to consider raising that size limit (or alleviating it altogether, better yet) if they want to court more indie developers into releasing their creations on the Wii. I can understand them not wanting game downloads to be too lengthy (that's gotta be why they instigated the size limit, right?), but if it's gonna cost us the chance to play more games then a slight increase in download time wouldn't be a bad trade-off, I'd think.

Wiiware misses out on lots of good games because of its memory issue. i still think they could just make u save it to a SD card and then they could make bigger games. That is there are tons of really good Wiiware games that must be 80mb that have tons of content. Look at Onslaught, World of Goo, Swords and Soliders, Lost Winds, Retro City Rampage, etc..... but its a shame that there is a limit.

One of the oddest types of gamers. Buying a console, supporting bad decisions the developers of the console makes, then wanting downgraded versions of games to be released on it instead of just getting a console or PC to play the better version. Supporting the limit because its removal can lead to good games that you want but want so little that you won't by them on another platform and want so little that you wouldn't wait for the big download to finish and delete the game or move it to an SD when you are done playing it. Then being angry at the games developer for trying to make the best game they could make. It makes so much sense.

This. I just picked it up on Steam and it's fantastic, and there's no reason Wii-exclusive owners should miss out on this just because of the size restriction.

I really think the restriction is a combination of not tying up the servers, as well as the small amount of included internal memory on the console itself.

There is no unnecessary stuff in the game - removing characters would be insignificant in terms of the total file size. It's not as if the game is huge, either, it's barely 100MB (on 360). And it would probably be even smaller on the Wii as the assets could be bumped down to 480p quality as it's mostly 2D stuff. It's not a total loss, however, as I think the game would suffer from the lower resolution and the lack of leaderboards and level downloads.

Yea but I'm talking about the extra stuff like getting all A+ and doing the dark stages. And the levels past world 4 ramp up a little bit and seeing what the creators expect you to be able to do is ridiculous yet funny at the same time because of what you said. You just eventually get it, but some particular ones frustrated me beyond belief lol. I played it with my buddies though and we would rotate the controller. I have a feeling it would feel like a better game on the Wii with its controller.

YES.

I only got angry at the game a handful of times because most of my mistakes were my own fault and I don't get very angry at myself. But when my mistake was caused by the CONTROLLER, I'd get REALLY angry. The problem was that every once in awhile, I wouldn't press the jump button hard enough. Obviously that's not really the controller's fault, but I kept thinking that I wouldn't be having this problem if I were using the Wii remote. The 360 buttons are just too big and "raised" above their pressure-sensitive switch for a game that requires such precision as Super Meat Boy. When you have to time several jumps in quick succession, the 360 buttons aren't the best.

I'm sure other people would complain that the D-pad is too small on the Wii, but that's never been anything close to an issue for me.

I also got everything possible in the game. Some of the bandages looked absolutely IMPOSSIBLE at first, especially the ones behind a locked door at the beginning of the stage and the key is at the end of the stage, forcing you to basically traverse the stage three times in order to complete it with the bandage. But in all honesty, once you've gotten to the final stages, you'll be good enough that anything is possible.

"a gamepad is optional, but so is bathing. think about it." "keyboard or gamepad, which is better? spoiler: gamepad wins" "for your own safety, use one of these: *picture of a 360 controller*" i can't believe i still laugh at those

For all those people who attacked me for defending the size limit on the Wii, if they're even still following this thread, it is not just fanboyism that leads me to do so. The Wii has very little storage, so without the size limitation, it would be full far too quickly. As for a defense of the small storage space, it kept the price low at launch and there has been no reason for Nintendo to upgrade, unlike its competitors. Even if they had chosen to upgrade, it would have been a blow to all the loyal Nintendo fans to suddenly have obsolete systems so that developers can make oversized downloadable games. As far as using the SD card storage on the Wii, there is one thing you should know: the Wii can only load a game off the SD card if there is an equal amount of storage available on the Wii itself (that is unless there has been a change in the last couple of weeks). You would have to keep your Wii's storage pretty barren to load games upwards of 300 mb.

As for the size limit keeping the best, or even many good, titles from coming to the WiiWare service, maybe you should actually look at what's available. WiiWare has more unique and well-made titles available than either of the other two consoles. (Note, though, that when I say that I am excluding the Computer, because 1. It's not specifically for gaming like the consoles, and 2. the games it has available would outnumber all three consoles combined.)

If Super Meat Boy is really 300 mb after converting the HD to SD, and compressing the game well, than it could either be released in episodes or not at all, since it was clearly never intended, despite the promise of the developers, for the WiiWare service. They knew the size limit and chose to ignore it until later. The size limit would have kept them from making a great game, as some have said, no more than it did for Gaijin, 2D Boy, and Telltale, who have all made great games and been very successful on WiiWare.

Why was it ever announced for WiiWare in the first place, I have alot of respect for Team Meat, but its extremely disappointing when they can't live up to their promises.meetroid8
Its either a gimped SMB for Wiiware or they protect their original creative vision. From that point of view its not necessarily lazy or unreliable on their part.
