I think they do...Xbox and Playstation have them so why not Wii. One if the top reasons I play xbox games are for achievements. They keep me motivated to play the game. I've never bothered to play through Wii games more than once because I don't see a reason to.

Anyone else agree?

I want devs to make good games for the Wii, not to make crappy games but bribe people to play them with stupid rewards.

You'd rather a dev has that crutch to work with?

I guess we're different then, I look for quality

The Wii needs achievements like the ones in SSBB and The Conduit where the rewards are more than a number (still have points but also get game art and unlockables) but for every game not just the few that have good developers.

The way I see it is the good developers will continue making high-quality games made better with achievements and the crappy developers will continue making crappy games with achievments in them.

Still achievements or not, they are bad games.

If they use them as a crutch thats too bad just do not buy them.

Its not a good reason not to have them esp when there is the possibility they will do good achievements. SSBB has achievements that are better than any system of achievements I have seen.

If Wii games used that as a standard it would be better than having no achievements and way better than XBL style of achievements.

Either way not wanting a feature that affects you in no wayis selfish because it does not affect you.

I hate achievements. There are only two categories that they fall under:

1. Stuff that is just part of a normal playthrough on a game, rendering them pointless; or

2. Stuff I don't really want to do but do anyway because my perfectionist side compels me to do them.

I feel much more free when playing Wii games, as a result. :P

YES, YES, AND YES!!!!

Wii could use some form of achievement system.

I don't know how many times I have to say this before you get it.

Metroid Corruption had achievements, it was a kick-*** game.

There is NO CONNECTION AT ALL between the presence of achievements and game quality.

Copying what others are doing while trying to figure out why they're not as successful sounds more like a job for Microsoft and Sony, not Nintendo.

RobboElRobbo

The game should be fun enough on its own to keep you motivated. If you need achievements to keep you interested, then the game isn't that fun to begin with, is it?

Him going along with MS's misguided idea of achievements isn't a reason NOT to have it.

No. I have a 360 and I think achievements are useless. If thats your only motivation to play games, I don't understand why. Its useless and people lived without them before Microsoft came into the market.

Yes they should have Brawl-like achievements as a STANDARD and for those who want to display points for competing with online friends and breaking into a community. It is totally different because the achievements are tied into the progression of the game and the points are for those who want it. I am sick of hearing people complain about other people's motivations. I do not want achievements for motivation, I want them for game tracking in an organized way. Other people want them for motivation and I do not agree with that but just because I do not like people being motivated to play by telling them 100 kills will give a pointless number or rank, does not mean I should regulate their style of playing. It is so lame this little group of gS users think that their dislike for how certain people view achievements as a reason NOT to have them. It is an irrelavent reason because different people llike achievments for different things.

Some people look at achievements for the wii and ask Why not. I look at achievements for the wii and ask Why. I just...don't get it. I've never felt like I achieved anything from the little thing coming up telling me I've done something that I never cared about in the first place.

Maybe you haven't but someone has found enjoyment with achievements. Why should you decide the dissappointment of someone else when either way the decision never affects you.

Even if someone doesn't like them, doesn't force them to try and achieve them. Nothing wrong with having the option, i was first skeptical about them but they are great.

Exactly, I do not like the little Wii GS regime regulating reasons why we should not have achievements when it never affects them. For those who like it then they will have a good time, for dreamers like me who want a SSBB like achievements we can still hopelessly dream, for those who feel like they should tell people who want the achievements they should not have it because they are disgusted with the attitude of those gamers need to TAKE IT.

Its not like I'm not for the idea but Wii's game generally direct...Mario Galaxy, Zelda TP, Resi4..it would be kinda pointless. The only game that had an achievement system was Brawl and it as pretty good but Brawl is a completely different genre from Galaxy, Zelda and so on.

There is absolutely no need for the wii to have an achievement system. If individual games do so, and it works well with the game, then that's great. But the truth is that we've had these for a long time now and were just calling them unlockables (as a earlier poster said).

But an overall achievement system for the wii would not be beneficial. It simply encourages people to buy crappier games in order to simply get more achievements. And this IS a problem! Do we really want another 10,000 people to buy ninjabread man just so they can get some achievements? That will only encourage them to make another one.

i have yet to find a way to tur the achievements notification off on my 360...its annoying. thankfully i could turn them off on my PC. i havent noticed trophies on my PS3 yet but i probably will try and find a way to turn off that notice too. there annoying.....i think i could just abut live with the wii having no achievements to be honest. if nintendo do want to put one in then please keep it optional...dont force devs to waste time on it. i much prefer something like multiple endings in a game for having a certain level of performance (eg MP where the more u collect and scan, the better the ending).

Ahh, another achievement thread. "No it will ruin games" "Nuh uh it is just something extra". Devs should just try it a little and see how people accept it.

Yup definately. There is no negative whatsoever to them. The whole "it'll ruin games" arguement is strange, what games have achievements ruined? They add lots of fun for me.
