when a competitor says that, it is fear.

It's fear like OG said.

If you look back to before the Wii was launched Microshaft was saying "The Wii is a great console but not a threat to us." Now, 6.8 million consoles sold in 6 months later they've changed their tune a bit.

They're basically just saying that the graphics aren't that great. I couldn't care less.

Why do they say it like a bad thing? Yes we got the Wii for the controller....and your point being? What's wrong with that?

The controller makes games that extra bit fun and enough already with the fear of third party devs competing against

Nintendo.

Well he catually said positive things about the Wii, he even talked about the Wii60 combo :). He had more bad things to say about Sony. Anyway, time will tell what will happen, I'm not really worried about Nintendo's future: the DS and Wii are doing great, online is coming for the Wii, good first party games are coming, interesting concepts are getting done by 3rd parties, Nintendo bought Monolith Soft (that will help get good rpgs), virtuall console is doing great too, new ideas for virtual console-like service  are being developped (kind of XBL service).... and many more :)

In a way I would agree, would you have bought the Wii if it only had the normal controler? The thing is it DOES have the wiimote and that makes it the best of the curent systems for gamplay (IMO). I would not have bought any consol had it not been for the wiimote I would stay on my PC.

their ability to compete with something like a Halo or produce an experience like Madden on their system is going to be tough.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!!!!!!

Thats why Madden on the Wii is vastly supperior to any of its pervious incarnations....... It REALLY seems that from his article all he cares about are the graphics......

How long would a big Xbox guy last at Microsoft if he were to say, "the Wii is great!  Don't buy a 360!"?

That is absolutely a regurgitated, pre-formulated response phrase from their PR sheet. The "video-graphics" aren't strong, eh? The "box" is underpowered, huh? No DVD playback and "down-line" parts? Ooookay. This guy may be president of their Entertainment and Devices Division, but it appears he doesn't really know too much about the things he's in charge of. Any representative from a big company is given a sheet of official responses to questions, and I'm sure that his response was just a hackneyed version of whatever the PR people told him to say.

I would have.  I bought it for the first party games.  The wiimote is just the icing on the cake.

No I wouldn't have bought it because it wouldn't have offered anything new.  The Wiimote makes game fresh and fun again.  They are just speaking through fear.

Bah, how many times does this article have to come up? The Wii is a great system. It sells because its different, as opposed to its compeition. which is just the same old same old.
