In addition to component cables, you may want to adjust some settings on your TV (Sharpness, contrast, etc), and also maybe sit farther back.

Oh, and you can get high quality cables from PenguinUnited for a lot cheaper than Nintendo's.

I don't know what kind of TV you bought but some of the lower end HDTV's do not have very good SDTV engines on them. I've seen 60inch Hitatchi LCD projection TVs that just can't handle standard def without them looking grainy and poor.

Again, I'm not saying you bought a cheap tv.. but.. if you did.. that could be the issue.
With that being said.. if standard def cable looks fine... there is no need for concern.

I saw a difference when I had the original cables for the Wii and now with the Component cables on HDTV.  Really see a difference on games like Zelda TP.  Cleaned up the soft edges and its easier to see, plus the screen has been scaled to size rather than being cut off.

Samsung 32inch with 2 HDMI ports and a sh*t load of other conection, for £1250/$2500?.  Also SDTV gives out a good picture. I only got the Wii to play Zelda and Sonic, once there done I might trade up and get a PS3?.

The new TV was for the new consoles...

Go in and change it to 480p in the Wii settings.
It's right in the manual.

I just tried out my new TV with Wii Sports (Bowling).  The edges were jagged (and I do have the component cables and the settings on my Wii switched to 480i), but I'm hoping the other Wii games look a little better (such as Zelda and Red Steel).  I still have yet to play with all my picture settings on my new TV as well.  However, Gears of War looked picture perfect, so I just think its the Wii Sports graphics that are to blame.

Just messing.

The Wii cheep so I'll be keeping it. I already new about the component cable, but I don’t get paid for a few weeks and thought I might be-able to improve the image. Cant wait for sonic, but after that I think my Wii might be collecting dust for a bit, as there ant really anything good releases for a few months...
