Wii Channels are the main gateway for a variety of easy-to-use, interactive multimedia, entertainment and communication functions.

Use the menu on the left to learn more about Wii Channels.

We at Nintendo sincerely thank you for your continued patronage of our companys products. We would like to inform you that a portion of the online services offered through the Wii console will be discontinued from 28th June 2013.

We apologise to those of you currently using these services.

The affected applications are as follows:

  • Nintendo Channel
  • News Channel
  • Forecast Channel
  • Everybody Votes Channel
  • Mii Contest Channel
  • Data exchange with Wii Friends*

* Exchange of Wii messages on the Wii Message Board, exchange of Mii characters on the Mii Channel and message/data exchange within some games will be disabled.

From 28th June 2013, the above services will no longer be available even if they are started up from the Wii Menu.

However, services other than those mentioned above, such as the Wii Shop Channel and Todays Accomplishments on the Wii Message Board, will remain available.

Guess this was bound to happen sometime. I can't imagine too many people still using these services regularly, though if you are, here's your heads up.

Note: This is from Nintendo's UK site, so it may not apply to all regions. This also does not yet apply to online multiplayer components in games like Super Smash Bros. Brawl or Mario Kart Wii.

Nintendo Channel going offline sucks for those that use it to track their overall playtimes, but I got an app that tracks it more accurately so IDGAF :P

*raises hand* I'm one of those people that's a little bummed about the Nintendo Channel being shut down, and mostly for the reason you mentioned. Even though it didn't track ALL of the games I had, I still found gathering the time I put into each game very interesting. Oh well. I'll live. As for everything else... *whoosh* :P

Don't worry, you honestly will probably never have needed any of those. The Nintendo Channel has some nice features but you would have had to track it down in the e-shop to download it, so most probably don't even know it exists :P

only 2 channels i used where the nintendo channel to check my playtime...and a few trailers now and then.

and the check mii out channel.. i downloaded like 50 or 100 miis....whatever the limit is.

i stopped using it because i downloaded the max number of miis....they need to bring this channel to wiiU...since wii has a larger mii capacity.

i have a all kinds of miis...from e.t to ronald mcdonald to jimi hendrix lol

great channel.

I remember Everybody Votes was a fun channel, but honestly, the News and Weather channels were pointless, especially since you can get everything from a phone these days.

Agreed on News and Forecast Channel, especially given that both channels didn't offer as much information. I once used the Forecast Channel at around 8 a.m. and the only data they had was from 2 a.m. You might as well just use your local morning news station.

Good memories with these channels when the Wii first came out. Haven't used them in years though.

Or you could just ignore games you won't want to play while others enjoy games they like playing instead of being a loser and wanting no one to have fun :)

When 9/10 matches are hacked you know you have a problem.

I have my own anecdotal evidence from playing online in both BLOPS and MW3 and only ran into one hacker out of quite a few matches, so....

Unfortunate to hear but it's been years since I was really engaged in those channels so I can't say I'll miss them. I'll probably check them out one more time before they're finished though, just for kicks. :P

Isn't the community basically dead on C2 already..? The COD games have pretty healthy numbers still, maybe I'm just extremely lucky but I've had very few hacker problems on BLOPS or MW3, they usually have to be the host to initiate the hacks and it lags them into ineffectiveness anyhow :P

How? It was awfully close to dead last I checked, not to mention it's loaded with glitches.

Well, I always find players while playing in team mode. Never in free-for-all.

It is always sad to see a console slow down, but a) like many others have stated I never used those features/channles, and b) the VC will still be going, so I very happy about that. Especially given that I only started downloading games from the VC about a week ago!
