Now people always say in arguments and debates about the Wii and another console is that ... "Oh!11 graphics don't matter, itz all about gameplay". Well now there's talks about a new WiiHD (successor of the Nintendo Wii) and people are like "Oh!1 i hope the wii gets HD this time".

Not only this example, I've seen this sort of hypocracy in many others situations. Its been something that I just wanted to let out, its been on my chest for a bit.

I love my Nintendo Wii for what it is, all the features and games it offers currently make it a fine addition to have in your household as a console. I'm proud that I have one. I really could care less if the Wii goes into an enhancement as long as they still give us the hardcore titles that I want. (Mario, Zelda, Starfox, Kirby, etc.)

Everybody involved in games are hypocrits. PS2 owners last gen didn't care about graphics and then when PS3 came out they started acting like the PC fans do. Same thing with 360 owners, they bragged about Halo 3 sales like no tomorrow, then when Wii started selling really well real fast they claimed sales don't matter suddenly.

HD is resolution, not graphical power. And depending on the type of game, having a better resolution would be nice. For example, RTS games. The pointer system seems ideal for this, but unfortunately 480p doesn't give you much real estate. (yeah, I know there are a few anyways... but I'm talking about a more classic style game with lots of tiny units on screen)

It's not only Wii-owners actually.
Before 360:We hate FF games-Announcement-After 360:Look we are getting FF,360 king of RPG!!

Cows are making fun of the Wii being a kiddy console with kiddy games yet their most hyped game is a kiddy one..
Just the way it is

I get what you're saying but the whole wii vs. next gen systems with Wii owners saying graphics don't matter was more directed at next gen owners using that as the main argument in which they touted their systems over the wii. The wii HD thing is great because sure you'll be getting better graphics but you'll also maintain the unique control style that most wii owners bought the system for in the first place. And I don't think any wii owner said that graphics don't mean anything, most that I know would say that graphics don't mean anything compared to gameplay, but great graphics can only improve a system that is the home for games with great/unique gameplay.

Oh forgot to mention: plothole while you're right that HD doesn't equal better graphics, it is almost a prerequisite for an HD system to have next gen graphics, otherwise why would you increase resolution only to see graphics that look like mud? Secondly, its already rumored that the wii 2 will have a graphically leap from wii comparable to gameboy advance from gameboy.

Yes Wii owners are hypocrites, well those that owned GC's last gen and claimed we had the best version of RE4 because it was graphically breath taking and now say graphics are irrelevant definitely are.

If you don't want to see people complaining about something then don't click the topics, everybody is entitled to their opinion and we all spent out a lot on the Wii.

well with the way things are moving, HD would pretty much become necessary or standard for consoles. it's just keeping up with the times.

i think the fact is given the choice we all want both innovation and great graphics. Out of the two most Wii owners would want innovation but i don't see the problem with wanting HD graphics too. I didn't buy the wii as some statement I brought to have fun and anything that enhances that should surely be welcomed.

No, i am not happy because the Wii isn't what it could be. Nintendo keeps holding it back by not allowing hard drives (which they promised before the Wii came out, via the USB port). Also the Revolution was supposed to have HD graphics but then they totally changed the console and the name. I am realistic, they don't care about generation Y gamers. They want the current younger gamers to become loyal and they will focus on them as they get older then they will get their hardcore games.

Nintendo has lost us gamers who supported them through the hard times, i hope they enjoy their money because in a decade they will once again snub their generation of fans.

I would never say that. When I have said something about WiiHD it's only speculation. I really don't care that much for graphics and as a little bit of proof of this, I been playing only the N64 for the past week.

Nintendo_Man

That's completely false. We didn't know much about the specs back in those early days, but it was hinted that the system would be weaker than the competition. Any mention of a uber-powerful "Revolution" (which BTW was just a codename, similar to "Dolphin" and "Nitro") was all just unfounded rumor.

The people that say HD isn't cool haven't experienced it. The people that want it... have. As for the graphics / story-driven comparison... What Nintendo title has a story? Fire Emblem, yes. Zelda, sort of - mostly it's just long. Mario, No, other than mario RPG they have stories? Nintendo can make games with good gameplay, but saying you would rather have a good story than graphics and still buying nintendo is crazy speak.

I still don't really care about the graphics. I still play games made 25 years ago. If it's fun, I'm there. Very rarely do good graphics add to the experience for me. With games like Oblivion it totally adds to the experience. But in most cases, I go for whatever looks fun to play, not what looks better.

A rare case for me when choosing between graphics and gameplay was when deciding between Force Unleashed for the Wii or XBox 360. Being a diehard Star Wars fan, I wanted to experience it the way it was supposed to be the first time through, and I'm glad I did. Hell, if the graphics were ugly, I'd still have a blast with the physics engine, that's what totally sold me. I still plan to buy the Wii version for the controls and multiplayer though.

Look, anyone that plays games wants decent graphics. However, cows and lems make it like the whole system is garbage because their precious system has 'teh best gwaphics!' and from their standpoint a game can't be great unless it does.

Everyone knows that is not true, but the argument gets stuck there

I don't mind HD as long as Nintendo puts gameplay before graphics, because that's what matters most.

HD support could go either way for me

For me, HD is overrated and yes, I did experienced it. I did play on the 360 or PS3 in HD. The games looks good however some of these games bored me. HD means nothing for me. The next Wii could be in SD and maybe I would still have fun. It's the games that I'm interested that are more important in concept and originality.

I can give 2 examples: Gears of War and Kameo. I had more fun on Kameo in SD than GEars of War in HD. Gears of War bored me to death.

That's not really true, people can have the HD experience at one point but still come to a logical conculsion that it's not that beneficial. In the end it's just a resolution upgrade.

I'm not paying a whole lot for a new system with just HD. Pathetic.

There is nothing wrong with Wii owners wanting better graphics. My only problem is when people say a game is bad because of its graphics aren't cutting edge. There is a difference.

I purposely bought a Tube T.V. because I would probably crack the screen on an LCD flatscreen T.V... like I accidentally did to my $300 19" LCD Computer monitor. (It's taped up and there's a black hole in the corner of the screen)

Since I have a 27" Tube T.V. ATM I don't give a @#$% about HD visuals.

It doesnt seem like hypocracy to want the next version of the Wii to be "HD". Even if you said graphics dont matter. Apparently to a ton of buyers graphics dont matter, but you wont find them complaining either if it looked better than it does now.

I quoted Haziqon out of respect, but this adresses everyone jumping on this statement. I think it is overrated as well. It isn't worth upgrading your whole system to have it either. But given the chance to have it I would take it. Those that say it doesn't help must have played the wrong game... Really, lets look at an easy location to compare: PC's. If you could play a game at 640x480 or at 1200x1024 which would you pick? As of right now I bet you are typing on a computer with the resolution set higher than 640x480 are you not? (if not you are the only ones that are not hypocrites). Everyone else I say BS. Higher resolution makes things better. It might not always be worth the cost, but really text is easier to read, the details are sharper, who wouldn't want it? You can still say you love the Wii for what it has given you this far and still agree HD wouldn't hurt anything (well except Nintendo's pockets)

You're generalizing "us wii owners". You don't know that the same people who want HD graphics are the people who said that it's all about the gameplay.

As for me: Gameplay is what matters, but better graphics would definately be nice.

640x480 to 1200x1024 on a PC monitor almost works. Except no PC monitor nowadays that I know of or maybe it's just mine. Can display 640x480 well. The minimum is 800x600, though I do have mine set at 1024x768, my monitor can go higher though.

Anycase, yes if I had the choice and it wasn't going to cost me anything. I would choose HD, most likely though I do worry about the HDTV's compablity of displaying 640x480 or heck 320x240 for my older consoles. All HDTV's I have seen make 480i stuff look bad.

Exactly, if Nintendo offered a free upgrade to 1080p visuals, whose going to turn it down. Technology is all about going foward, I mean were all fine with standard controls last gen, does it make hyprocrites for taking to motions controls this gen?

Wii owners do care about visuals, what they're trying to say is that they aren't basing their choice in spending money on graphics. That doesn't mean they don't LIKE good graphics.

That's like punishing wii owners for buying component cables for progressive scan. I can see where you're coming from, but I think you're exaggerating it a bit too much.

I would however love to see a kirby game, and a new f-zero, and I'm dying for the new metroid game.
