My wii hasn't been working correctly. I have not turned my wii on in about 2 months and when i turned it on just now, the wii is not being detected by the sensor bar. When it does get detected occasionally, the wii "hand" on the menu shakes intensely. what is the problem

Well first of all I should point out that the sensor bar doesn't detect anything. It's just a set of IR lights which are used by a sensor at the top of the Wiimote to determine the pointer's position.

Anyways, have you tried putting fresh batteries into the Wiimote? If that doesn't work, unplugging the system for about five minutes and then try again.

Makes sense. The sensor on the Wiimote won't be able to pick out the sensor bar if there are any other IR sources near it.

This means very strong sunlight, so bare this in mind when you are aiming for optimal performance with your console, but ironically, in strong sunlight you probably wouldn't be able to see your screen and would close the curtains or blinds.

There are also a some common artificial sources of near visible IR, such as incandescent, and especially Halogen, bulbs, as well as candle sticks.
