Why would you want too? I know if you leave it for a while it loses connection and goes into a standby mode.

Point the wiimote away from the console and bury the infrared end of it into a pillow or something to keep the signal from bouncing of the wall and then hold the power button down for about three seconds until the blue lights go off.

well if you're lucky, sometimes u can tap the power button on the remote and it'll turn off, it's happened a couple times. You can just hold the power button and both the system and the remote will turn off (obviously). If you want to switch controls, hit the home menu, go to wii remote settings and reconnect it. But if you're changing the batteries or trying to fix something, open the battery cover and you'll find a little red button next to the batteries. If you press that, it will turn the remote off.

I hope this has helped anyone, later!;)

It shuts off on it's own, just leave it alone

There's no standby mode and the little red button is to sync the Wiimote not to shut it off

The remote shuts off automatically if you set it down for a few minutes.  There's no reason for you to turn it off.  For the five or so minutes it takes for the remote to turn itself off it isn't using the speaker, or rumbler, so the amount of power wasted is almost nothing.

Why not just take a battery out? THat way you don't waste a few minutes waiting for it to shut off on it's own. If your remote is off, you're not going to be using it anyway.

Press the "home" button on the Wiimote and go into the "Wii controller settings" menu at the bottom of the screen, then press "reconnect" and both Wiimotes will be turned off, then you just need to press the 1&2 buttons together to turn the Wiimote you want to use back on. I can't believe so few people know about this.

Whew, good to know I'm not the only one who was going to suggest that.

Bingo, I can't believe people actually took out the batteries every time they wanted to turn one off.
