The Wii seems to be the only console out there (it is) w/o a reward system. xbox360 has the acheivements and now PS3 makes all its' games come w/ a trophy reward system so why does the Wii not have one? I think they make games more fun and make people actually play more. On PS2 and such i never played on the hardest difficulties but now that you can get a reward for it i usually at least attempt to.

Do you think the Wii should make a reward system?

fmac,I know more about the 360 reward system so i will tell u about that, fyi i'm not saying they r coming out w/ a wii reward system just that it would b a good idea.

The 360 has 'acheivements' and every retail game has at least 1000pts you can obtain from doing things in the game. EX: If you beat Gears2 on Insane difficulty you get 150 gamer points. All the points you get from all the games you have played total up and equal your gamerscore. The PS3 does some trophy system but i rly don;t know ne thing about that.

a reward system gives a small purpose to gaming kinda. A lot of people who have a 360 and PS3 find themselves playing a game more often b/c they want 2 try and get 1000/1000 in it or they want 2 get more points/trophies than their friends. A reward system makes it a lil more fun.

Reward system is pretty much how it sounds. As an owner of all three next (or this generation) consoles, I can say that the Wii not having it doesn't necessarily make it bad, or making me wishing it had it but it would always be a bonus! You complete special tasks, and feats during a game and you're awarded, in an xbox 360's case, gamescore which allocates through everygame you play. Same as the Playstation 3, once you complete a special task you're awarded a trophy (either bronze, silver, gold or platinum. Bronze being the easiest, Platinum being the rarest). You can then place your trophies in your Hall of Fame once Home comes out. Anyways, that's pretty much what a reward system is. It gives you more of an incentive to keep playing a game, and replay it aswell to pickup anything you've missed. It's necessary for the PS3, and 360...but on so much on the Wii...but I can see it. :)

Achievements are pointless IMO. They reward players for doing long, repetitive tasks. I want to play the game how I want to play it.

some acheivements r like that (like kill 100,000 enimies) but others you pretty much just get from having fun with it like beating the lvls and then other games have completley original ahcievements like save the soldier b4 he burns 2 death. They make it a lil more fun and r just a bonus 2 gameing.

I think it is alittle stupid how the 360 and the PS3 have alittle trophy things in them because games are not for a competition or for trophies it is just for fun and to enjoy.

The reward system is nice but is is unnecessary. Personally, it wouldn't make much of a difference to me if they made one for the Wii.

The only achievements I tend to get in 360 games are the ones that I would have gotten even if there hadn't been achievements. The times when I do actively seek out achievements and finally get them, it feels more like I was just feeding my OCD than actually enjoying the game more. So no, I don't really mind the fact that the Wii has no reward system, although considering how much people seem to like them and considering that some games implemented their own game-specific reward systems, I would be surprised if the next Nintendo console didn't have them.

I was always rather ambivalent towards reward systems, but I really liked how it was implemented in Metroid Prime 3. Using achievements to "purchase" and unlock in-game extras is cool. I've seen other games (PC games) use a similar thing (i.e. beat time trial to unlock extra content) but I like the way Metroid gave you multiple ways you can unlock the content (because to get the requisite tokens, you could perform different feats.)

No no. Too much OCD trying to get them all. Ugh. Besides they're not worth anything but to show off your gamescore. The reward isn't very, um, rewarding.

Well if a reward was put in place, what harm could it actually do?. People can still play the way they want to and others can get more fun by going after the bonus'. Its 100 percent optional to activly go for the rewards

exactly, no harm done by adding a reward system but possibly more people would buy it.

I don't understand achievements. It gives you points for doing stuff, but you can't do anything with them except boast about them, which means nothing. I'll stick with the upcoming Club Nintendo.

That's what I think they should be used for. In game, not just Club Nintendo swag for buying the game (though... it would be interesting if you could use achievements for Club Nintendo...)

I never said I dislike achievements or related functionality. I think they're useful for proving things to friends, or such like, if you're a competitive sort. They don't really add anything that I would particularly miss that badly if they were absent, however.

I don't remember what I said about Metroid Prime 3. I don't keep a catalogue of things I've said in order to make sure I don't contradict myself. If I did say anything that contradicts what I'm saying now, then I guess my opinion has changed since then. :P

Eh, achievement trophies aren't anything special. Besides, that's kinda one of those things that would lead the wii into being some sort of a 360/ps3 clone.

I'm not trying to catch you in a contradiction. I'm asking you if you liked it when you played MP3. They're used for more than just proving things to friends in that game. I thought they were implemented particularly well. I could do without the stupid friend exchange stuff, which is really just a marketing ploy, but whatever.

they kind of had them in Kirby Air Ride (GC), Melee, and brawl with that big grid. And dont forget PS3 only recently adopted them. I wouldnt mind a system like that, but dont really care that much.

From what I know, only a small handful of people actually cared about the MP3 achievements in the first place.

The trophy system on the PS3 is great, but I honestly don't really care if it comes to the Wii. Nintendo needs to focus on making good games at the moment, not trying to get a reward system.

There has been discussion of this before and I think most people are for it. Rewards would make certain games more fun and would allow gamers to get more out of games, especially ones with shorter 1st player modes. It would not be much of a burden at all for developers either.

Yup, I especially like the clever names of some achievements and it's quite fun to be playing a game and then see an achievement pop up when you weren't expecting it, and trying to figure out what it is you did that got you it, based on the name. It's a hell of a lot better than bug collecting.

There it is. Replayability value. You get way more out of games this way and the developers know this. and it's just fun for a couple of reasons like beating your friends and it's an "achievement." feels good to be recognized (and have everybody else recognize) that you've beaten some game on "insanely impossible" difficulty, or got 9 million hp in a game or dealt out 100 million damage with a single attack. Nothing stops people from still setting there own goals in games. What other reason would I have for finding laptops and destroying tvs in COD4.

Thing about the wii is it has nothing to benefit from an achievements system. It has no competition. It's totally in a league of its own right now and people by every garbage game released for it. Not that they're all bad, but a good majority aren't good.

The one SSBB used was neat. Instead of gamer points we got trophies, stickers and CDs. Too bad we couldn't show that stuff on-line though.

If the Wii is going use a reward system, then it should be like SSBB.

Acheivements are just guidelines. You don't have to complete them you know. You make it sound like they completely hinder a game.

The Wii doesn't need a reward system. The greatest reward for doing something is to have done it.

I would enjoy an online point ranking system for the wii and I believe it would be a perfect tie in to how nintendo views the wii.

Nintendo sees the Wii as an entertainment homebase. Something inwhich gaming is just one fascet. We can see this concept in the development of News, Weather, and Photo aps. I believe as the system matures (in software and hardware) we will see a more communal style of interaction.

A point ranking system would do several things:

1.  It adds another element to the connected nature of the Wii system

2.  It gives user replay value to games. Giving people a reason to come back to single player games like Zelda. An often used chop at the Nintendo titles is the lack of varying difficulty. This would completely diplace that concept, but it would give advanced players a way to challenge themselves beyond the standard game play.

I agree you get nothing of value from either, I just got a 360 and I'm not breaking my neck to get any achievements. I don't care about trophies either and I thinks its stupid that Sony is forcing devs to shoehorn them into the development process. Nintendo has never been one to follow to the pack, obviously, this is one more thing that they don't need to jump on the bandwagon for. Whatever happened to playing games for enjoyment and not some stupid score to be posted next to your name. Its not even like indicates your some great gamer or something, it just shows that make an effort to get 50 kills with the Lancer is Gears of War, while I blast away with whatever I feel like using. Its amazes me that people feel that a game is incomplete without these things, fun is no longer rewarding enough.
