There was a thread on this yesterday and supposedly it is worthless since when you are in the wii speak channel that is all you can do. It would be nice if you could talk in the background while playing games.

Yeah, I downloaded it today and it's basically like Pictochat on the DS, in that it's just a place where you go to chat and that's it. It'd be much nicer if it allowed voice chat with someone no matter where you were.
I still feel this is one of the stupidest things nintendo has ever done. We don't need a special channel just for chatting. Chat should be running in the background at all times. My friends and I should be able to talk while I play mario galaxy, two of my friends play mario kart online, and a third friend makes a mii for the check mii out channel. Chat should be run by the wii system in the background. Not attached to individual games or a special channel.

Yeah. But, maybe one day they could somehow update it to work this way. Maybe if they got enough feedback or something...
