Wow, that's quite a surprise. Wasn't expecting anything that low.
And what's wrong with you guys? Just because it's from Australia, it's not a real review? Australians can't be taken seriously? I don't get your logic here.
If anything, it shouldn't be taken seriously because it's from IGN. ;)
I already got 10+ hours of ridiculous entertainment out of the title, and I don't plan to stop soon.
This sounds a lot like "preset opinion" review to me. Even if the title consisted only of swordplay, table tennis and kayaking, it would be worth the money easily.
Sorry, that makes me take it less seriously. I dunno but the problem with people hating on GS reviews is because they score too low right? I find the complete opposite in IGN :P but that's just me.If anything, it shouldn't be taken seriously because it's from IGN. ;)

Actually, IGN is generallymore generous with the Wii scores than GameSpot. Im from Sydney, and yes I think the entire AUstralian gaming industry is crap....
Thats Australia, who knows, they might all be Yahtzee Crawshaw clones bent on hating all games while being really funny.enterawesomeI'm Australian, and that offends me to hear that from our Allies across the ocean think we are backwards. It's only our cencorship, broadband network, comm. network and health care system that suck. Our game reviewing is just average.

it sounded like his review justified the score. it's a shallow game that has so much more potential is what he was saying. having like 3 fun games out of the whole collection with the best (in his opinion) already being on wii sports.
this is a pick up and play game so i'm not sure why he wanted depth, but i suppose modes could have a little variety, so that they don't get boring quickly.
what i didn't get with his review was in regards to the games and players. he said at the end that for singleplayer it's pretty poor, then he said 2 player only has handful of modes and 4 player is pretty non existent. surely these games apply to one of the options.
i won't be getting the game regardless of the/any review, i hardly played or enjoyed wii sports after a few days after launch so this will just not be worth it. red steel 2 seems like a better option for me. for those who enjoyed and still play wii sports this looks like a must buy.

But it's not written by Matt,so it must be more credible than most other IGN reviews, right?

But he's wrong about most of the stuff. Swordplay has perfect, glitch-free, lag-free controls, two great MP and one SP mode, strategic combat, is incredibly fun and waggle doesn't get you anywhere. Everyone in the user comments strongly disagrees about what he said about that mode, and I do too. The swordplay alone is worth 20 bucks. Sports Resort has some games that are more worthwhile than others, but none of the games are useless; there's a ton of variety, unlockables and content in there keeping you entertained for a very, very long time.
I am now 10+ hours in and I don't plan on stopping soon. Most of the NTSC-J owners already have 15-20 hours clocked with the game, and that's mostly single-player, the MP awesomeness not even taken into account.
If you want a good impression on what Sports Resort IS, check out this user review, there's also a vid with the swordplay mechanics.
It's fairly obvious that the reviewer approached this game with a "I'm going to rate this game low no matter what" attitude; nothing he says matches the user impressions of the last 2 weeks in any way. It's like he purposefully ignored game content and played it the wrong way just to score it low. It's a troll review.

Its not just Matt. A lot of the IGN staff is a joke, on all channels. IGN just tends to get news stories and previews at a faster pace than any other site. As for the review, score is lower than I expected but I don't really care since I won't be picking up Wii Sports Resort. Its not just Matt. A lot of the IGN staff is a joke, on all channels. I mainly just said that tongue-in-cheek.
And if the IGN staff is a "joke," why,if I may ask,do you use IGN scores for the Wii Gaming in 2009 thread?

They review most Wii games the fastest - I tried to use three sources (IGN, GameSpot, GameTrailers) and a lot of times GT and GameSpot didn't have reviews for some of the games quick enough or dont have them at all.Guys, please actually read the review. It's quite good, yet a little harsh. He commends the games that Craig from IGN was confident about, including table tennis, bowling, golf, archery and wakeboarding, yet finds that many of the others are dull. He also comments on the lack of simultaneous multiplayer support, especially in dogfights. From his statements, I would expect something around a 7. The score is quite justified, so maybe it's not their slice of cake.
This is bad news IMO... IGN (AU, UK and USA) tend to give the Wii the benefit of the doubt on many occassions, so a 6,5 for a Nintendo game promoting MotionPlus is really low.
On top of that, none of the reviewers of Wii Sports found some of the limitations in e.g. bowling but they're sure as hell there. I hoped Wii Sports Bowling would be updated in this title, but the review never really states a real difference... And if you'd follow that logic Wii Sports Resort will also have many rough edges or limitations which the reviewer of IGN hasn't even come across.
Bad news indeed...
Grrrrr.
I hate when a review spends a page or so talking about all of the things that the game doesn't have. Why the heck do they do that?
To me, it sounded more like he wasn't reviewing the game, but making a comparison of what he thought the game was going to be like and what it actually was like. It seems completely obvious from the first few lines that he was too hyped for this game and because it didn't meet or exceed his every expectation (some of them, like the need for online play are ridiculous) he was upset.
And while I'm nitpicking through this thing, I also don't like how he explained the "good" games in depth, but doesn't really say why he found the other games to be "forgettable" or "good...to a point."
My point is that I, personally, read through reviews to get a sense of what the game has to offer, it's good and it's bad, and at least the image of some kind of objectivity behind the feelings. I do not care what the reviewer wanted or expected.

And if you'd follow that logic Wii Sports Resort will also have many rough edges or limitations which the reviewer of IGN hasn't even come across.Bowling with MotionPlus is a huge, noticable, considerable difference. Also, there's an entirely new mode for the game, where you have to bowl around obstacles - impossible without M+. The same goes for Golf. Not all games have long-term value, but if there is anything that works perfect for every single game, it's the controls. Don't read that review. It is 100% crap.Bad news indeed...
dirktu
The worst part is Australia is upside down on th Earth....
So that means it's a 5.6 in the U.S.A.
Oh it's just [Insert Reviewer/Website/Country]. I don't trust reviews from them. I much prefer reviews from [Insert Reviewer/Website/Country]. They're usually right.Raiko101[Insert Reviewer/Website/Country]? They're are unbelievably bias, how can you even read their reviews? [Insert Reviewer/Website/Country]is soooooo much better it's not even funny.

must be because there wasn't a Crocodile Wrestling game, or Shrimp Grilling.

Uncalled for. I could make a ton of jokes about wherever the hell you come from but I don't know where you're from.
You should be banned from life, anus muncher.
lol calling names is something to get moded for my friend.
Austrailians are known to wrestle crocodiles, and grill shrimp... are they not?
Besides, it was a joke... if you got offended by it, I suggest taking a vacation. It's alright, a lot of people need one, including myself!

Could be because he's crap at swordplay or didn't understand the mechanics behind it...sounds like it from what he's written (IGN reviewer).
