Whether if this is april fools or not, why would this be a "cool"? Wouldn't this be more of a "wow finall Nintendo" didn't the PS2 have the ability to watch DVDs? I think the original Xbox did too, I don't remember though. I expected the Wii to be able to play DVDs from the start...

Next time provide a link. But since you just made that up, I guess it's not surprising that you provided no proof to back up your statements.
it says on wikipedia, nintendo were planning on releasing an updated wii model which had a dvd drive, but to be able to play dvd's you need a whole new drive and not just an update. it was delayed due to the mass numbers that were bought over christmas and people still waiting to buy one. but couldnt this mean it may be easier for pirate/back-up discs to be played on them?
If this is true whats the point? I already have 4 dvd players in my house, i dont need a 5th.edd678
LOL! Yeah, I have 11 in the house and one in my car. This has to be a joke as Nintendo has been shooting down DVD playback from the beginning. They are a stubborn company (as most Japanese ones are) and don't go back on their word for the sake of honor and reputation.
I already have a PS3 and 360 but my I put my Wii in my living room. It would be nice to dump my cheap DVD player out there and be able to use my Wii instead.

Anyone can change that stuff. It said that Stephen King was born in 1881, its been changed since, but Wiki is not reliable.
even if this is true, i really dont need another DVD player. and if i did i would want one i dont have like blue ray for HD. But if they could do it for free with an update i guess it would be cool.
