I am just curious if anything is confirmed or not for an achievement system for the wii u? I see them doing it sorta like how the 3ds is where it is in game achievements and not console achievements like xbox. Does anyone know anything is confirmed?

Never really got the point of "achievements" at all. So a little pop up tells you you've completed a level you had to complete. So? Nobody, NOT A SOUL goes around other people's profiles and looks up their achievements/trophies. I suppose it gives the typical gamer a sense of achievement though, kind of like you see in those experiments with chimps when they push the right button, hear a click and get a banana. Or the hitmarker sound and disturbingly redundant sense of satisfaction derived in COD games. Nintendo would actually be silly NOT to put it in, so I say they will.

Some supposed leaks suggest that Wii-U will have a system called "Accomplishments" which I assume will function in much the same way as achievements/trophies. If not, then the achievements will be on a game-by-game basis, as evidenced by Pokemon Black/White 2.

Wow, I'd rather not have known that people could be so pathetic and needy. Having an e-rep based on utterly meaningless flashes of green/black light on a video game. ............But thanks for that, I suppose.

How anyone can be so shallow and narrow-minded is just too much for me. How's your social life? Just because you don't like something, doesn't mean others can't. Loads of people care for achievements/trophies.

The thing is every feature on the other systems and not nintendos, even if its no interest to you, is a lose. Including unconvince, like the headset being plugged into game pad thing. A lot of people like a gamer score system for whatever reason.

Objectively they're meaningless, subjectively they SHOULD be meaningless. Honestly, it's something dozens of people do every second, what makes you getting the achievement so special? It's the equivalent of WoW players congratulating each other over a new, slightly more powerful pair of pants. Pointless and pathetic, means nothing in the real world. It's also like COD k/d, except that requires a modicum of skill to achieve. I'm rambling a bit now and I'll stop here.

I'm not saying you can't care for meaningless "achievements". Just like you can't stop me from pointing out that it's meaningless and requires no admirable skill. Well maybe you can, considering that this place has its own thought police wandering around.

I'm sorry but why are you even a gamer? Just because doing certain things or collecting things doesn't interest you doesn't mean the rest of the world are losers. I think you need to stop being so narrow minded.

First, you're an idiot. This was amply proven in the anti WiiU thread you posted, but I felt it needed to be said directly. Second, videogames are "meaningless and require no admirable skill." But if you're doing something "meaningless," you might as well go for the gold while you're at it. I have achievements that less than 10% of the Raptr community have unlocked. And I have leaderboard standings that none of my friends can approach. Now please, take your oft-given advice and abstain from posting further in this thread.

Have you ever actually played a game with achievements? You seem to think you only get them for completing a level. There are plenty of games that require lots of skill to get some of the achievements, for me the whole point of them is to get you to try new modes or ways of playing the game that you might not have otherwise. They can really help with replayability.

This is a forum for video gaming.Video gaming is an entirely hedonistic pursuit. Gaming has close to zero relevance to anything in the real world, bar flight simulators and a few other niche examples.

Deathskitten never made the claim that when they got the achievement it was 'so special'. So your phrasing of this question to a point he never raised is a straw man.

You think subjectively they're meaningless? Cool story bro. I am sure there are thousands who agree, thousands who disagree, and thousands whom haven't even formed an opinion about it yet.

Your statement before had an opening sentence which was so funny I could hardly believe it. Check it out:

"Wow, I'd rather not have known" - So you have a preference for ignorance?

"that people could be so pathetic and needy" - Are you making a judgemental sweeping generalisation of these people?

I don't make any judgements about you Flappy Kid, but regarding the content and quality of your written work here at Gamespot - it is nothing more than trollish flamebait.

Calm down, I haven't be flinging insults wantan about. Don't go getting upset. If you do something meaningless with no appreciable skill involved, you might as well do the best you can? Even if it involves spending your time doing pointless menial tasks when you could be doing something productive and/or fun? If you find achievement hunting "fun", you're likely the kind of person who finds Sudoku fun, or MMORPGs fun. Oh wow, you're in the top 10% of the Raptr community, I'm impressed, I can't believe you even deign me worthy to speak with! I'll post where I like as long as I feel I'm contributing to the discussion.

On your first point, thanks for agreeing with me. Video games are entirely hedonistic and yet entire irrelevant. What does it say about the person that spends their time pursuing menial tasks to "achieve" little tokens that flash on the screen. Or even worse, takes pride in the achievements that come from completing a level? I'd rather not have known about that particular niche in humanity, sometimes ignorance is bliss. Especially when it comes to the knowledge about the types listed above and their communities. *shudders* I am not a troll, just someone who's curt, and not afraid to be honest.

In that case, why do we play videogames? It's not productive either. It's a hobby. Collecting achievements is a hobby. And to some people, dare I say it, it's 'fun', or even rewarding. You and me both, we don't care for them. That's our opinion...but you shouldn't go further than that by downgrading others' opinions.

And by the way, achievements aren't totally meaningless. Eventually when you get enough points, you save 2% on purchases....yay.
