Bought my kiddies the new wii u for Xmas, all excited to play, set it up but all it keeps saying is invalid docs then disc could not read, please eject and make sure you have up the right way etc which if course we have tried 100 times today. I've updated software as well and Internet is working. What else could it be? I've tried wii u games and I've also tried putting it on normal wii mode and trying just wii games but disc still not readable. P,ease help make Boxing Day a good one!, Thanks in advance

I can only guess one of two things, either you have the disc in upside down, or you bought Wii games instead of Wii U games. If the game box is white, than you have a Wii game and you can only play with the system in Wii mode and you need a Wii Remote+Nunchuk

It isn't a common problem but it appears to be a problem nevertheless.

From what I've read the main culprit is having the console placed in a vertical position. Try placing it flat and if that fails to work I'd suggest returning it for an exchange or contacting Nintendo directly.

If you keep getting the error, I would contact Nintendo's customer support. They just need to replace the unit. As with any hardware launch, there will be lemons. You should be able to use the system in any way that the company states you can use it....so, if you have it arranged vertically and it doesn't work, I'd start the process of getting a new unit. The other thing to note is what games is it not reading? Do you have any games made by nintendo? I was able to play everything except Scribblenauts. I sent that game back and will try it again with a new disc. If that doesn't work, I think I'm going to try to get my console replaced too. No need to try each and every "work around"....I spent $350 on it.... it should work out of the box. Nintendo has a very good track record in regards to their customer service.

It is worth noting that the "bad disc" error also happened to another famous console when it first released in 2005. Your disc is (likely) fine. You're like a beta tester for their hardware; I'd definitely get the unit replaced.
