You will need to get the Wii USB LAN adapter. It plugs into the back of the Wii through USB and allows your Ethernet cable to be plugged in. It costs about $20 bucks. You can get it anywhere on the net.
You can get the official one by calling Nintendo direct and ordering it in. I did it that way - took about a week and cost $40.00 Australian. Worth every cent. I find wired connections to be far more reliable than wireless.

Yes, wired connections are more reliable and transfer more megabits per second, compared to wireless at least. Although, your internet service comes into play as well...but enough of my mindless rambling.
