the wii's power is a couple times powerful than the xbox. my question is when do you think developers will make games has good looking as doom 3 or half life 2 on the wii. if the xbox can do it , the wii can do it even better. but how long do you think it will take developers?zero030
I think the games we will be seeing this Fall and beyond will start looking a lot better than what we're getting now.
Cool, but is there anyone here that can finally tell me what those terms actually mean?Kojo222
It means that the Wii is better but the devs are lazier.
I myself don't have a HD tv but when I owned a 360 the graphics were good but I felt that maybe I was missing out somewhat due to lack of a HD picture. This got me thinking because playing even some cube games on my wii the graphics seem very good indeed even by todays standards. How much of the power of the machine is used displaying HD graphics ? because I myself haven't got a clue but I guess it uses some. This could be a wise move by nintendo because it sort of boosts its power in a strange sort of way. I really don't like a HD picture maybe because I haven't seen a picture set right yet, but to me every game or film I have seen on HD looks very sharp but the textures or skin tones look like crap and well over the top. A good example is Pickmin 2, the game has an option to turn the blur filter off but when you do the picture looks much sharper but gives it that sort of crap look I am trying to point out with a HD display. I watch many movies and love my games and am very fussy with the look of picture set up and I use a now quite old 36" Panasonic. I have a mate who plays his 360 on a new Samsung HD 32" and two weeks ago he picked me up and had a quick look, he was astonished and questioned me about the Wii and how it wasn't supposed to be good with graphics. I was actually playing Metroid Prime with the picture set right (basically the contrast lowered) and he admited it looked surprisingly good and a far more realistic look than he had been used to . He now wants me to set his tv up. And he has pre-ordered a Wii. Has anyone any idea how much power is being used to display HD rather than standard def ? Â

FPS are graphically dependant. Wich is why PS2 only got a few noteworthy ones even with extreme sales.
BTW: It's a couple times more powerful than the cube not the xbox. Â

The wii is Incapable of Normal mapping do to its non-existing shaders. If it cannot produce shader it cannot do normal mapping. and the wii is actually has the same relative power as the Xbox though the xbox has shaders built in with its superior Nvidia gpu.
Same topic, new board??? Hmmm...

See that post and see if your question's are answeredÂ
the wii's showing its graphics already, have anyone see the new gameplay video of resident evil UC?? Its just 30% of the game and it looks really good, it just depends in the devs and capcom knows how to push good graphics on nintendo consoles.venture00the actual character have really low polycounts. the actual gameplay and not cgi isn't superb.
The Wii is said to be a little more powerful than an Xbox, and I think Nintendo will have to show everyone that the Wii can have good looking games. Wii games should look better after the release of Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3.Litchiei agree.

I cant remember were I read this, but someone who previewed MP3 said it looks worlds better than Halo 2, that makes me happy enough.Â
I think the Wii will have some great looking titles coming this summer, specifically Mario Galaxy and Metroid 3.

However, when you speak of Doom 3 on the xbox, it is important to note that Doom 3 looked like a piece of garbage on the xbox, especially when compared to the PC version. The textures were slaughtered to make them fit onto the VRAM, the anti antialiasing was massacred, the lighting was neutered, and the bump mapping was halved. Lets not forget the gutting of advanced particle effects. Most notibly, Doom 3 ran at 480p on an xbox was only displaying 1/4 of the graphical information as a PC playing the game at 1600x1200. Don't believe me? Here is a link with some comparisons .

First off, let's be clear: the Wii is not "a couple times" more powerful than the original Xbox. Most developers are in agreement that it's merely "a little bit" more powerful than the original Xbox and there's even some debate on that.
However, it's definitely comparable to the original Xbox, so hopefully it's only a matter of time before we see a game with Ninja Gaiden or Doom 3 quality graphics running in 480p and widescreen.
Here's to hoping, but even then, it may be a little too little too late. The Wii's most powerful weapon in its arsenal is going to be delivering unique gameplay experience with its control scheme.

Nintendo will probably be the first one to use Wii to it's full potential. SSBB, SMG, and MP3 (which is reported to now look better than halo 2) already seem to be using the Wii to it's full potential and all of the games come out this year.
Well given the rumored capabilities of the Wii's GPU, Doom 3 w/o getting cut up could technically be run on a Wii. Why? Because it has twice the pixel processing power as the Xbox, despite similar texture processing capabilities. Even still, there were some Gamecube titles with really well done dynamic shadowing, such as the Rogue Squadron games and even Twilight Princess. Resident Evil had dynamic shadows rendered in the in-game cutscenes, but not during gameplay, probably to free up resources and keep them available when needed. That doubled up pixel processing power will allow the Wii to display really nice textures as compared to the Gamecube or Xbox as well as more effects like dynamic shadows, more bumpmaps, and other advanced effects. The Wii is still relatively new. I expect it takes programmers about 8 monthes to really take advantage of the hardware. So give it about 3 months and we'll start seeing some amazing games.gatsbythepig
The Wii hardware is an extension of the Gamecubes, they know how to program for it already. It's just a question of how lazy they are.Â

I hope that your joking.. please tell me you are? did you see elebits.. the entire game was one big low def map... dewy has false mapping if you call that glistening golden pot normal mapping. the same affect was used five years ago on samus's suit in metroid prime and many other games till today. like some of the twilight princess bosses.
