my friend moved and gave me his Wii before he left. sweet deal i know.

i immediately went out and got SSBB and have been playing since. is it just my Wii or is the disc drive very loud. when loading the disc up through out the game it seems unusually load compared to what i am used to with my PS3.

is this all wiis or just mine?

It seems all Wiis have this thing about being loud. I know that the PS3 is completely silent (seems to me at least when I load disks in). Games like SSBB and Metroid Prime 3 are disks that make for some of the most noise. You've given me an idea, I shall video the inside workings of the Wii as a disk is loaded and you can see what parts move and why it's loud like that.

Also, a huge congrats on your score. My Mom's boy friend got his PS3 and Wii for free as well.

I've been playing a 360 for the past couple years. The Wii, even when playing a disc is about 1/10 as loud. I love it.

Mine's got the same sort of thing; it clunks and beeps a few times, particulary when it messes up and can't load a game.
Other than that though, it only really makes noticable noise when loading, and even then it's usually just some beeps or flutters. Nothing too loud, even if it is louder than a GC.

Well, I guess we're in the same boat, my 360 disk drive is very loud as well, so much that it's painful in thinking every time that it's almost scratching my disks, specially on start up; the loud spinning noise and then when it stops it's just this grinding sound. Strangely enough my cousin's 360 is nowhere near as loud as mine. I did loose a disk to that drive, but I got int there and put some tabs to keep other disks from getting so badly scratched.

well i am glad to hear my free wii is not defective. it would make sense that SSBB is a louder than average disc as i believe it is one of the very view dual layered disc games for the wii and thus puts more stress on the laser, i would guess anyway.

my makes a bit of noise but only when loading it think its with the high quality games, with alot of info on the game, but it works out for me because when im waiting for an online match to find opponents i usually watch tv and it makes a internal spinning or whirring sound if you will, and i switch back to the game and its time to play it means its loading the game and found a match so yea and as long as it aaint broke i dont care cuz i dont hafta fix =D

My Wii makes very little noise no matter what game I'm playing.

Many of the others I've played on have made some pretty loud noises, I suppose I just got a little lucky

haha

during loading times mine sounds like it starts to spin up, then stops abruptly and makes a clicking or beeping sound, then spins again. I don't know what the heck it's doin, but it still seems to be working.

The drive should be silent except during loading. If its a constant whir/hum/buzz you need to get it fixed or it will drive you insane.
