Did this in system wars, but got flamed, but I think Wii-U fans will appreciate the thread a bit more. Anyways...

I'm tired of all the people saying the Wii-U isn't as powerful as current gen consoles. Its obvious that it will be substantially more powerful then current gen. We'll see its true potential in due time, but I think Nintendo right now isn't pushing the console as much. Its like when the Xbox 360 launched, I remember no game looked amazing at launch, but now games look so much better. I remember when I thought Call of Duty 4, Halo 3 and GTA IV looked like amazing graphics for its time. Wii-U launch games probably won't look that great, but once the competition releases consoles, we'll see next gen graphics on Wii-U. I'm not saying the Wii-U will be as powerful as next gen consoles, but it will not be like the Wii. Nintendo made it clear they wanted to have power on the console, and they wanted third party support and to get the core gamers. Unless next gen consoles are gonna be insanely powerful, I expect the Wii-U to Microsoft and Sony's console the same comparison as the PS2 compared to the original Xbox in terms of power. Anyways enough with the talk, here is some quotes and proof that the Wii-U has next gen power.

THQ: "WiiU is just a lot more powerful than current HD consoles it does 1080p very easy."

"The Wii U version of games from ALL developers and publishers, have potential for much smoother framerates, improved textures, and additional bonus content that the 360/PS3 version's won't have."

"The console is more than capable of graphics that surpass current consoles. It's like I said before. Expect majority of third party Wii U games from most publishers to have true 1080p, additional content, and smoother framrates than what the PS3/360 versions offer. If you want the DEFINITIVE version of any game in your library, I would suggest either the PC version or the Wii U version."

Epic: "It will do things current HD consoles simply can't do, it's going to be a powerful box."

"That Zelda demo was gorgeous and we can do even more than that "

5th Cell: "We've kind of had this in the pipe for a while. For a couple of years I?ve been wanting to do something like this, and the Wii U is also really, really powerful. Oh, that's cool. With the Wii U we've been able to make the game way bigger, because with the object creation, putting all that stuff together, the DS just can't handle all that stuff, even the Wii couldn't handle it, but the horse-power of this can really handle it."

Vigil Games: "We had the game at the same level as high end pc version in a matter of days and a few lines of code got the game up and running on tablet in 5 mins."

EA: "Wii U is not a transitional platform, it is a true next generation system."

Reggie Fils-Aime (President ofNintendo America): "We're about to launch a tremendously powerful system."

Gearbox: "The Wii U is a powerful, powerful machine and it can do a lot of cool new things. And so the game itself, moving it over to work on the Wii U was not much of a chore." "The Wii U version of the game (Aliens: Colonial Marines" will be better than the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, because of more modern tech."

Wii-U Tech Demos:

(Apparently the garden tech demo looks even better on the show floor. Also note that both tech demo's were running in full 1080p at E3 a year ago, the Wii-U devkits have been changed to be more powerful then first released.)

http://www.nintengen.com/2011/06/wii-u-garden-demo-had-better-graphics.html

Honestly the 2 tech demos from E3 2011 are in my opinion the best demonstration. I personally think the Garden demo is better then any PS3 and Xbox 360 game, just notice how realistic the water looks, how sharp the image is, how smooth the bird was and how great some effect were like the flower blooms. The Zelda demo was also pretty amazing as well. Looking at the temple was really sweet, with awesome lighting effects. smooth animation, and the temple floors all had great reflection. Both of these were tech demos in some of the very first Wii-U dev kits, its amazing how great they look. Also both of these were running in 1080p on the show floor.

i stopped reading about 1/2 down. for me, all that matters is a good game. and good games dont always have super amazing HD 1080 graphics. sometimes they are 8-bit games that have you addicted for hours. honestly, i never had a complaint about graphics in a wii game. my only complaint is because of everyone elses love of amazing graphics, great games on Wii got overlooked this gen and instead most of the world was playing COD over and over.

The reason we're not seeing anything that blows current gen graphics out of the water right now is because Wii U is getting a lot of last gen ports, and other games that were almost or already finished for other platforms. Games like Assassin's Creed, Batman, Mass Effect, Trine, and Aliens were ported over to a new piece of hardware that developers still need time to figure out. Developers have had years to adapt to the PS3/Xbox 360 setup, but very little time to understand and optimize their games for the Wii U. The fact that the Wii U can take these already-finished products that were never built around its hardware in the first place and make them work as well as they do shows me that it has some technical muscle under the hood.

Pikmin even started development on Wii, with all of that system's technical limitations, and migrated to the Wii U. The game looks great, but it's no showcase for what the hardware is fully capable of. We'll see better examples of what Wii U can do when developers begin to work on more next-gen projects. Had I judged the Xbox 360 based upon Gun or Tony Hawk's American Wasteland 2, I probably wouldn't have bought one.

With all the talk about graphics and horsepower, people are forgetting what really matters here - gameplay. You can have the best graphics money and talent can produce, but it won't mean a damn thing if your game isn't fun. I played a game for the PS3 a while back called Heavenly Sword. The game looked fantastic, but the gameplay was boring and monotonous. Too much focus on making things look pretty and not enough on making the game fun. Graphics are important, but they're a secondary objective when compared to gameplay.

Look at what I found from another forum. VGleaks got it from an anonymous source.

Someone from another forum figured out that a Wii U developer posted in the NeoGAF forum said that "they are the true Wii U specs".

I don't buy the whole "Anonymous" source thing. Anyone could have sent those over. Specs tend to be a bit different everywhere you look, and most are from Mr. Anonymous.

Flamed on System Wars, who would of thunk it? XD. I was looking at the Pikmin 3 video on my 3DS last night and it looked a lot better than it did when streaming it on my computer. But all in all(outside of great art styles) I agree with da_chub, visuals will only get you but so far. After a couple of years, no one will care what games look like on the Wii U. It will only come up when games are below people's expectations.

I also agree. Generally speaking, a game's visual appeal will come and go, and once people lose interest in gawking at it, it's usually gone for good. That isn't to say that it's hard to tell a good looking game from one era from a bad looking game from that same era, as I think it's still very possible to do that with titles from the 8-bit era and still have an appreciation for the games that pulled off nice visuals. That being said, since most high-profile releases lean so heavily on photo-realism nowadays, their luster tend to fade quicker than the games of yesteryear.

In time, I'm sure that there will be something about the Wii U that I will come to appreciate, but I'm certain that 'graphics' won't be one of those things, unless one of those very rare expections of a game comes along and pushes both the technical and artistic side of the visual scale to new heights.

If it can handle a game like Battlefield 3 on high detail then it's pretty good but if it's on-par with the HD twins that's not so bad either. The HD twins still pump out impressive visuals and the Wii U should aswell. Of course there's the question what will happen after the next MS and Sony machines hit the market but then again graphics aren't everything.

Graphics are surely not everything, but I think the Wii-U is much more powerful then current gen consoles, since everything is just a port, people say its no different, but all these ports are going to look better on the Wii-U. They might not be 1080p right at launch since there is no real need right now, since no other console other then the PC can run true 1080p with most of its game, but the Wii-U is surely capable of easily doing 1080p. Once the other next gen consoles come out, we'll see better graphics on the Wii-U. It will have to try to keep up with the other consoles, so and next gen engines will be ported, rather then previous gen engines. Nintnedo will surely push the graphics more once the competition releases. Even with the Wii they pushed the graphics a lot, and I think the graphical difference will be a lot closer next gen, it will be like the PS2 vs Xbox in power rather then Wii vs Xbox 360 and PS3. It can run the same games, just maybe at lower settings.
