WiiWare Shmups

Shmups are back!

Wikipedia says all three shmups are scheduled to come out on Monday but I highly doubt Nintendo would release three of the same genre games on the same day.

What one are you most excited about?

Star Soldier-R (800 pts):

*Made by Hudson Soft

*Vertical scrolling shooter

*Single Player

*Online Leaderboards

*Three control schemes - Nunchuk and Wii Remote, Wii Remote only (held sideways) or the c lassic Controller.

Gyrostarr (700 pts):

*Made by High Voltage Software

*Cooperative or competitive local multiplayer (up to 4 players)

*50 levels of gameplay

*Two control schemes - Wii remote or Wii remote and Nunchuk

Protothea (1000 pts):

*Published by Ubisoft, originally developed by Digital Builders and released for PC's in 2005

*Top down scrolling shooter

*Aim with IR Wii remote and Nunchuk (I think)

*Dynamic enemy A.I. based on players actions

*Air and ground attacks

I'm a score junkie and a major fan of the shmup genre. I take my shmups vertical and manic. I'll get all three listed here with Star Soldier R taking highest priority.whoozwah

according to Wiiware World, the only game you mentioned coming that they have announced is Star Soldier R. These are the same people from vc-reviews.com and have always been fairly accurate. They also said Critter Round-Up is coming this monday.Phantom5800

I never said they were all coming out Monday, I just said that Wikipedia said that and that I did not think that's what will happen. All of the games I listed are on the site you mentioned. WiiWare World or any site can't have much of a record for predicting WiiWare games since there has only been one release week in the US.

It is hard to predict what WiiWare titles will come out each week since Nintendo has the final say. High Voltage Software thought Gyrostarr was going to be a launch title, but Nintendo released their other game V.I.P. Casino Blackjack.

I voted for option 4.. I do not hate them, but nor I play them :oops: I use to like gradius and have one on my VC, but I notice that I do not enjoy the gerne as I use to... so no more of that for me :P

and I`m with you.. I doubt the 3 would be release the same day...

I was really excited for Star Soldier R for a while, then I looked at some previews. It's said to be thrown together, and even though its a leaderboard game, two levels kinda sucks. Also, for a Shmup, none of the games actually look challenging. I'll get Gyrostarr if it gets a good review, but other than that, I'd rather get Castle of Shikigami 3 and Blast Works.Picklechugger

I heard Star Soldier R just has a 2 and 5 min modes where you try to get as many points as possible.

Star Soldier R = 2 levels FTL

Protothea = Crap

Gyrostarr = No idea, but it's my only hope at this point. :\

i think most people are gonna go with Gyrostarr for the multiplayer and the 50 levels. The price doesn't hurt either.ECG_24

Yea Gyrostarr is the best. I hope it's made well and does well, because High Voltage has some other promising games. If this and Animales turn out well, then I'll be looking even more forward to the Conduit.

I hope High Voltage will continue to make original games like Gyrostarr and move away from licensed titles.
