Lot of 3rd party companies are thrilled about Nintendo Switch, and ever RockStar Games like it. I think Nintendo will have a chance to get 3rd party support back with Switch. While they aren't Sony or Microsoft because they aren't trying to be both but they are different. We saw NBA 2K on the Switch and I know Madden, Call of Duty, and maybe GTA or Red Dead will be on the Switch. So will a strong 3rd party support help Nintendo Switch sell more or will it end up like Wii U. Let hope so

I think it will help a bunch. They still need strong first party unlike Wii U had in first year. They have to show people that not only can you get some third party favorites, but you can take them on the go.

"Successful" 3rd party support could help the switch.

If third party games don't sell on the platform, that "support" will die out within a year.

So Nintendo better do something unique and USEFUL with the switch, like making it portable and allowing the two sides of the controller to detach from the screen so more than one person can play on the same portable system. The screen should have a kickstand too and be featured on a popular American late-night talk show.

Only then will it have a chance.

@YoungDavid77: Most, if not all, Third Parties almost always declare they are "thrilled" for announced hardware. They are words, but these companies are cautious and history has shown us actions vs. words.

Those that are old enough recognize and are familiar with this old song and dance from publishers.

The real issue boils down to hardware sales that publishers feel comfortable bothering with the proprietary hardware. We can expect with every launch from the big N, a "sell out" that holiday season, but the real battle is getting north of 20 million sold consoles. The other issue is POWER, the games designed for higher end machines may not come over to the switch at all (as we saw with Wii and Wii U).

That support should help it.

only of the games are exclusives (or maybe share with the PC at most....even then.).

multiplats are going to sell next to nothing on the switch. very very few people are going to pick up COD or creed and the like on the switch unless they have no other choice and the number of people who will have no other choice will be tiny.

the games will cost the same as the other versions and they will be gimped in some way (technically the switch is no PS4 so there is one compromise).

so why pick the switch version?

3rd party games have only pushed nintendo platforms when they are exclusive (the only title that comes to mind is just dance which was initially exclusive to the wii).

other than that nintendo platforms succeed or fail based on the strength and appeal of its exclusive offerings.

It would not for me. I'm basically going to buy it for Zelda. I'd prefer to play games on PC if possible though.

I'm sure there are other people who would appreciate 3rd-party games on the Switch though. I think exclusivity is bad for the most part - it works both ways.

No

Nintendo still has an online infrastructure that's 30 years behind the competition.

Also the list of devs for the Switch is less than what was shown for the Wii U. What's worse is most stuff is old ports of stuff that's already out, that is never good. Want proof? Go check out Watchdogs on the Wii U.

Source on Wii U having more dev support? Would love to see it.

I feel like no matter what Nintendo do, it won't be enough.

I feel like the NES and SNES had so much support was because the competition was almost non-existant so Nintendo system was the logical choice. Since Sony is in the game, Nintendo take a beating each gen ... They tried to play the game with the GameCube and it didn't help them at all ... WiiU had a lot of support at first and it didn't change anything.

Nintendo is better on the handheld, in short burst ...

Yes. People can be tempted to buy a system for its 1st party exclusives, but they need to know that they're going to get the 3rd party games they want too. Not everyone wants to or can buy two platforms. So they're going to look for what can provide the best value for them. If the Switch can get 3rd parties on board and have all of Nintendo's great exclusive games, I think that it will be an easy choice for gamers.

I'm going to remain cautious until the holiday season next year. The Wii U received a good bit of praise when it was announced and supposedly had a bunch of developers on board. We all know how that ended up.

I hope the system will get the 3rd party support and the developers continue to make games for it for the long term and doesn't have similar fate like the Wii U.

It could potentially help. It comes down to how Nintendo plans on marketing the system and its software though. And also what TYPE of software Nintendo will have 3rd party devs make for their system. Need more games with a western flavor to them instead of the quirky variety...
