The rumor section of this month's EGM said that Nintendo aquired Monolith Studios to make an RPG that will be a "Final Fantasy Killer"...

Do you think that with the big N looking over their shoulders that Monolith can make an RPG to give the Final Fantasy Series a run for its money??

The Wii needs an Epic original RPG.

I'd like a new RPG franchise. However, Nintendo needs another RPG studio to acquire.

I'm hoping they do make a FF killer. Monolith would be a great studio to try to do it with (I love the xenosaga and Baiten Kaitos game). I also see a BK 3 coming somewhere along the line.

Somebody needs to put Square-enix in there place another (choosing words carefully) RPG franchise to go along with what many consider Zelda to be would be excellent. However Lets make sure we don't get Spikey haired hero with 20min long cutscences, generic RPG (Enchanted arms. cough, splutter) type affair lets make it orginal.

I don't see why they couldn't.  Baten Kaitos was made largely by Monolith when they were part of Namco, and a lot of the critical acclaim it received claimed it had "production values close to that of the Final Fantasy series." (I think this was in Game Informer, but I might be wrong.)

I was thinking Nintendo can only help monolith because if they do create a great game, Nintendo has the deep pockets to help aid the whole marketing aspect.  Plus, anything Nintendo touches lately is gold.

aren't monolith the ones working on Disaster Day of Crisis? If they are its likely that they will do an RPG after that game is done... unless that the RPG they've been working on :P
