I've heard that people play their Wii for like only 2 or 3 hours a day. Well since i'm 14 and it's my summer holiday, I play my Wii for about 5-9 hours a day. Can my Wii overheat, or anything in general damage my Wii if I play this long, or even longer? And my fan works fine. I'm just worried that playing it for this long every day may do something to it. Thanks!

Just keep it well ventilated and turn off WiiConnect24 if you're not using it... which I'm sure you're not.

No, the Wii can't overheat

Play it as long as you want, leave WiiConnect on when you're not, and you're set all summer.

Well...You don't have to necessarily turn WiiConnect24 off - you need that to recieve updates when your Wii is on also. Just turn off the 'Standy Mode' and slot illumination, and that is better for your Wii imo.

Are you guys serious?

Between work, friends, and my girlfriend, I only get to play a few hours during the week, and maybe a few on weekends.

I have plenty of time to play...and if you have the time to spend on these forums, you could use that time to play instead.

It doesn't always work like that... at least for me. I have a wacky schedule.

Wow, that was an epic comparison lol. Just throwing this out there, but dosen't the Wii use a laser to read disks and I remember my first Playstation lens stopped working a couple years down the road cause I played it so much. Can't the same thing happen to A Wii? I dunno, I'm just throwing my two cents in.

It's summer, shouldn't we all be out and playing sports or something? Geez, enjoy the weather while it lasts @.@...well eh depends on where you live, Seattle never gets teh sun :/.

Anyways, I've never heard of a case of the Wii overheating.

Exactly. But it's not good for rechargeable batteries to play for so long at a time/

Your Wii will only last a finite amount of time. The electronics don't really wear out, but the motors for the fan and disc drive can only spin so long, so it would be reasonable to assume that a Wii that's played four hours a day will last roughly twice as many years as one that's played eight hours a day. But we're talking about years here, so there's no reason to worry about it. Nintendo's consoles have a track record of longevity.

well seeing as the Wii has moving parts and has heat build up yes the more you use it the more things will wear out. just like any thing else manmade. but i dout it will wear it out any time soon. baring some unknown factor you should not have to worry about that for a number of years even if you run it 8 hours every day ect.

As long as you aren't blocking the fans, it won't overheat.

Well they break, God knows I've been lucky enough to have it happen

That's from defects though, not from use.

Not likely as long as it's properly ventilated. But maybe you should worry about breaking yourself. I hope you take some breaks in between your 5-9 hours. You are still young but you might develop carpal tunnel syndrome if you're gaming regimen is the same every day for a whole week. Call up some friends, see some movies (that's assuming you have some cash), get out a little bit. I mean it is summer time.

This is Nintendo we are talking about, not Microsoft (red ring of death.)
