Retro Studios has been very quiet lately, in fact, a little too quiet.

I have this feeling (with Reggie saying the hardcore are going to love E3) that they might make an appearance sometime soon.

If they do, that will be awesome! Maybe they could resurrect Pit!

Also, just for reference, Retro is the studio that brought you the Metroid Prime series.

Oh, and please do not say this should be in the E3 topic because it is not about E3, it is about Retro.

Thanks.

They definetly have something brewing in their offices. It's basically impossible to guess what that may be though, time will tell I guess.

And between them and Intelligent Systems(who have been rather quiet considering their workforce size), I do believe we have quite a few announcements in the works across the board.

Hopefully we will find out about Retro's new project on Tuesday. It's already two years in the making.

If they have a project though. They might not being doing anything right now... but that is just worst-case-scenario.

The main parts of Retro left

The shell is just going to keep on making games

Now that could be good or bad, remember that Retro screwed up Prime 2 so bad that Nintendo had to send a babysitter for 3 so maybe they'll do better work now

Either way this is Retro "lite"

Are they the ones who have been tweaking MP1-2 with Wii controls? or has it been Nintendo themselves???

EDIT*

I just looked at their website...it's pathetically outdated. The last update was 08-04-08, and that was for job postings. I wouldn't be surprised if Retro fell apart.

Like Jayson said, the majority of the team left.

Took the words right out of my mouth (but I didn't think Prime 2 was bad). Retro joined the ranks of Rare because of this split.

I'm thinking it was SPD which is a division of Nintendo that works with other 3rd Parties and 2nd Parties handeling Nintendo IPs they even have division of SPD that handles Wii Channels and I think one of the divisions is handling the remakes with Wii Controls.

Not that I minded prime 2, but I thought Prime 3 was a super letdown. The only really decent one was Prime 1, and even then, it's not close to being a favorite of mine. What am I saying? I don't know, Capt'n Jason. P.S. Now you can continue on chainsawing everyone's threads.

retro was in no means like rare to me.Prime were good(and thats all there is to it) but i was never able to compare to the plethora of games Rare did.On topic, sure, they are working on something. Not the main team but then again, i dont think is hard to replace that talent. They werent geniouses, just able to deliver a quality product.

Prime 3 for me was a let down as well. I loved the controls, but it was just kinda boring to me. I don't know what it was, but something was wrong with it to me. I think it was Dark Samus to be honest.

I wish they would leave the series alone (FPA wise) until Nintendo goes with a HD console. Metroid is definitely one game I wanna see in HD

Yikes. Personally, I didn't find Metroid Prime 2 to be that terrible (or terrible at all, actually), but I suppose that's more power to me. :P Anyways, on point with... your point, I do find the departure of a number of people at Retro to be somewhat discouraging, and the fact that the developement team hasn't really worked on a major project outside of the Metroid Prime series is something else I think that has to be considered. That said, I'm not by any means assuming that they are incapable of pulling off another quality game, but it will be interesting to see how the 'new' staff will be able to handle something outside of the MP universe and make it just as appealing.

Prime 2 was the weakest of the three games, but by all means, it did not suck as much as you are intending.

I had just as much fun blasting enemies on Aether that I had on Tallon IV and in Corruption.

The only problem with Prime 2 is extreme amount of back tracking.

Whatever Retro is up to, from their sucessful games since 2002, it is bound to be awsome.

Let me ask you this, do you believe that Nintendo EAD is the same since Mario Bros., do you believe that the same team at Hal worked on every Smash Brothers? Do you think Retro was same from Metroid Prime to Metroid Prime? Development teams are always changing, a few people leaving means nothing in the grand scheme. Hell do you think Miyamoto still has the same role in Mario and Zelda games that he had back in the NES day? And if you can go on with a mind like that no longer part of the development team, I think Retro will survive, don't jump on the Jayson nonsense bandwagon. Especially in the wake of continuing a series, where the groundwork is already there.

Why resurrect Kid Icarus? The NES game was horrible(not the GB version). I'm sure Retro has been working on a good franchise this whole time, like Star Fox or something.

Yes a level of new Pit fans have come from Brawl, whats your point? Also there are alot of classic Kid Icarus fans, maybe that was just before your time but while it was never a Mario or even a Metroid, Kid Icarus does have a fanbase. I see the only reason you have an issue with it is because you think Kid Icarus' existence somehow makes Star Fox less likely. Star Fox will come, there's no question about it, but I would have liked to have seen a new Kid Icarus as well. A straight DK platformer is probably out as Miyamoto never liked the whole thing, and while he doesn't have as much of a role in development anymore, he certainly has more pull than anyone else in the company.

Umm, personally I wouldn't mind seeing another Kid Icarus because the original story seems quite interesting, and overall it would be something different for the N to do, it can even be made gritty (if they moved from what they remade the characters as in SSBB).

And like others have said eariler, development teams change all the time for games, it is hard to say that all the good original creators from Retro are gone so they are useless.

Just look at Street Fighter 4, are ANY of the original creators of SF2 there in the core of the development team? I hardly doubt it, last I heard no one from the original team stayed over all the years in Capcom. Wouldn't be surprised if some came back for it, but overall it was a totally new team since SF2 was first made and revolutionised gaming all those years ago.

How did they screw up Metroid Prime 2. One of the best games of 2004, having an average score of 9.2, and selling over a million. Does being "not as good as Prime 1" constitute as a comeplete screw up these days?

Would that Wiiware game be Icarian: kindred spirits? I would like to see Retro restored to glory but chances aren't high. As for Icarus i wouldn't mind seeing a new game but I would rather have a Starfox. so yeh Starfox >>>> Icarus anyday.

It may be mediocre to you but thats just your opinion there are a number of people who don't think much of Star Fox either, and I could point you to a number of flying games to "satisfy" Fox fans. But I bet you wouldn't be statisfied because its not Star Fox, so what do you think a Pits fan reaction to that game would be? Kid Icarus was a good game with bad timing, and Pit is an interesting character, why don't you just go play Sky Crawlers or something instead of worrying about Star Fox.

I liked Prime 2 even though it was tooooo frkn purple, the problem was that the original Metroid Prime was a masterpiece which made it almost impossible for the sequel to compete with, let alone better.I haven't played 3 so can't comment on it.

They definetly have something brewing in their offices. It's basically impossible to guess what that may be though, time will tell I guess.

And between them and Intelligent Systems(who have been rather quiet considering their workforce size), I do believe we have quite a few announcements in the works across the board.

Yes, Radiant Dawn was released as a Gamecube game in Japan. They wanted to bring the game out here still, so they put it on the now-active Nintendo console, Wii. So, maybe they will make one for the Wii itself one day. I would like to see Retro Studios make Metroid Prime Hunters for the Wii, with new hunters and a new, better story this time around. And, to get away from being 'just the Metroid guys', they should try breathing life into an existing IP that needs some love, or else make an entirely original IP.

Metroid Prime 2 didn't sell as well as the first game. Nintendo said they were unhappy with the sales. Jaysonguy took that as them saying they were unhappy with the game in general. Don't pay attention. He has said this many times in the past just to annoy and start arguments.

I remember I WiiWare game being posted on this forum not too long ago which was very Icarus related. It looked good actually and would rather have that game satisfy the Kid Icarus fans.

Sepewrath

It may be mediocre to you but thats just your opinion there are a number of people who don't think much of Star Fox either, and I could point you to a number of flying games to "satisfy" Fox fans. But I bet you wouldn't be statisfied because its not Star Fox, so what do you think a Pits fan reaction to that game would be? Kid Icarus was a good game with bad timing, and Pit is an interesting character, why don't you just go play Sky Crawlers or something instead of worrying about Star Fox.

I wasn't trying to offend you, as you seem offended. I wish to make some things clear......

Kid Icarus (to my knowledge) was an NES game that recieved no other incarnations since. There was a Game Boy game as well, named Of Myths and Mosters which I have and enjoyed. That's it, two games from many years ago, got that? Ok,.....

Nintendo is home to the best talent in the industry and home to the best, most revered franchises. With characters like Samus, Link, Mario, Fox Mc Cloud, Donkey Kong, Little Mac, Kirby, Captain Falcon and others, I don't really see any major need for Icarus, but that's just me. Maybe he is interesting to some people and there's nothing wrong with that.

I will say however that I do feel that Nintendo franchises like Wave Race, Pilotwings, F-Zero, Donkey Kong, Star Fox and Kirby have much bigger fanbases and have at least a few games that are good and resonate more within the gaming community, thus making more people happy and excited by a Wii appearance. That's what I would like to see.

As for Star Fox, I'm really not that excited for one, because I would rather have F-Zero. Or a new DK Platformer (which seems unlikely). I only said Retro should work on Star Fox because of their Sci-Fi experience working on the Metroid Primes, which makes the most sense.

I hope that clears up any misconceptions.

The main parts of Retro left

The shell is just going to keep on making games

Now that could be good or bad, remember that Retro screwed up Prime 2 so bad that Nintendo had to send a babysitter for 3 so maybe they'll do better work now

Either way this is Retro "lite"

How did they screw up Metroid Prime 2. One of the best games of 2004, having an average score of 9.2, and selling over a million. Does being "not as good as Prime 1" constitute as a comeplete screw up these days?

Metroid Prime 2 didn't sell as well as the first game. Nintendo said they were unhappy with the sales. Jaysonguy took that as them saying they were unhappy with the game in general. Don't pay attention. He has said this many times in the past just to annoy and start arguments.

LMAO! So true! It's a great game. @ FFCYAN : People feel Kid Icarus would differentiate itself from other Nintendo franchises because the game is set in a sky world, and the protagonist can fly and shoot arrows. Link can use a bow in the Zelda games, but aerial combat with bows would probably play much differently. We are kind of hoping for a mix of ground-based and flight-based action and adventure, with this Greek ancient feel to it. So, some of us feel that Pit would be a good mascot to hold onto because his games could develop their own style, kind of the way Mario, DK and Kirby are all platforming 2D sidescrollers, but they all play much differently. I also want to add, if they bring Pit back and make a new Kid Icarus game, I hope they keep his original look rather than go along with the new one they made in Brawl. He wasn't the most gawd-awful thing ever known to man, but I felt like his anime look was kinda simple and uncalled for. I preferred his more cartoony appearance.

Even so screw up? No. And if I was constantly being proven wrong by random people I would seriously reconsider my train of thought.
