So I know the new Nintendo controller will have a touch screen on it. That makes me wonder if they'll set up the controls for a shooter like the DS, where the touch screen is your look/aim. This control scheme is awesome and second only to PC. Is there any word on if this is so?

Thats what I figured. Man I hope they do this. I've played my son's Black Ops on the ds and the controls are amazing. Very close to pc.

Depends on the functions of the rumored touch screen. I'd rather use the rumored dual analog setup instead

Dear lord I hope not

That control scheme is one of the worst ever and is one of the worst gimmicks this generation. You have some sort of awful tank like controls that you tap where you shoot.

If it's got a regular controller we'll have the two sticks and once again you'll be able to play FPS games on the Wii again

Dude. You use the screen to aim and R to shoot. The screen functions as a mouse &pad. It's a very good design. I suppose you think thumbsticks are good for FPS's?

Have you played any DS shooters like Metroid Prime: Hunters? You don't point at your target, you slide the stick to move your camera.

To me either a touchscreen or dual analog would be a serious downgrade for FPS.

i hope so. the DS is awesome at FPSs from a control standpoint. TPSs also. nothing solid on that front mind. if its possible to play the game on the touch screen instead of the TV though then it could be a problem. you would be blocking a good chunk of the screen while trying to play. maybe devs could have it implemented for when the game is being played on a TV and then resort to the sloppy, slow and crap DA setup for when playing on the controller (im assuming itll have 2 sticks....though it may not). a necessary evil.

From the Wii's IR controls to dual analog, wow that's a huge drop in fun factor, feel and precision IMO. You THINK dual analogs are great thanks to the powerful AUTO AIM that those games use, lol. The next Wii really should have IR controls in shooters imo, for me theres no going back.

yeah if you read up at all you would find out that it is impossible to make a fps with dual sticks without some sort of auto aim engine. It is just imposible to be as percise as you would with a mouse. Anyway, a touch screen controller sounds cool because you could watch the tv and your stylus would not block the screen like somebody said earlier. In reality though I would just want that as an option or bonus, not the main control scheme. I really want to know what the hell nintendo is going to anounce Wii and gamecube backwards compatable, still can work with wii mote, touch screen hd showing on your controller, ZOMGGG. I need it to be two days from now

If a new control scheme is coming with the next console then I hope the developers add support for the Wiimote. I'll try a touch screen interface on an FPS if that's on offer, but dual analog is something I won't attempt again.

Couldn't agree more. Playing Fps games on Wii was awesome and innovative.

From a mouse I agree, from the Wiimote I disagree 100%

The tech just isn't good enough to beat out dual sticks right now and maybe next gen we'll have that kind of accuracy but there's a reason arcadey games like Bond do well on the Wii.

Touch screen is just a disaster, no matter what style I've tried it's been pure fail

Well for me the pointer is already way more accurate than any analog stick. Even the Dreamcast controller's analog stick (this is still by far the best I've ever used). And it just feels more natural too.

I liked the dual analog stick the most. I really dont like the motion one because when I play a shooting game I dont wana move a lot :/

Then again i only gave it one chance and should give it another try

You don't have to move a lot to aim the pointer. Just slight wrist and elbow gestures will do the trick. Similar to how you would control a mouse.

I don't think there is a single DS FPS that controls that way. Try actually playing the games before criticizing.

Hmm wont it still have the same control scheme as the current Wii? Even with the touch screen i doubt they'd abandon motion control..I'd assume its still motion control, but maybe improved :D

No doubt. DS FPS have bad graphics, something I'm not use to when playing a FPS, but that's made up for in controls.

A stylus and touchscreen is just like a mouse, but more accurate. It's like replacing that mouse pointer on your computer screen for a pen. You can accurately slide a pen to points on the screen betterthan you can do with a mouse. And it's generally known that the mouse is better than the joystick, so that meansthe stylus is better than the joystick as well. But infrared or on-screen pointing beats all three control types. It's like using a real gun.

Think of it like this. If you were going to a real war, would you rather rely on joysticks, a mouse, a touchscreen or a real arm to aim your gun? I don't wanna die so I'm gonna chose the most natural, accurate and consistent way of doing it.

Dual analogs are great, auto aim or not. If a PC game lets me, I will generally use my USB controller instead of mouse and keyboard.I don't know why, I like other genres of games without the analog set up, but I can't stand the mouse for shooting. It might be because I don't have a gaming mouse or anything, but I just hate the limited movement of having to keep dragging and then moving the mouse back and then dragging again to aim. That being said, the PC is one of my preferred systems, even though it is about on par with a work computer. I prefer Ninty systems for their first party games, but with most things I like the PC.

I should also note I do not play games like Call of Duty that have auto aim. In third person shooters that have the option, like Red Dead Redemption, I turn auto aim off.

That would be dumb because then you would have to look at this little screen to play a game on your tv that you would not look at. I think it iwll be used for maps and inventory mostly.

A controller like that would seem uncomfortable to use. And, depending on the game or had the controller would precisely work, looking back and forth at the touch screen and the T.V. would probably give me a headache.

Kinda, but not really, if the leaked pics of the remote are to be believed, the remote will have two anolog sticks. There is your answer right there. If anything, the touch screen will be used to select weapons, or just to clean up the hud and keep all pause and select menus on the touch screen and off the big screen.

agreed. After playing a fps with motion controls, Dual Analogs are the worst fps controls period. I'll never go back to that catastrophic control method.
