We should have a sticky on this, as we've seen it over and over... anyway, no. There is no reason for them to release a new DS. The current one is selling like hotcakes; no one has ever obsoleted their current product when it's still flying off shelves. Wait until sales begin to wane and die off; it's at that time when you'll see a new DS (or a new handheld entirely).
Yeah, there's no need for one right now. The DS Lite is still selling too well. I'm too afraid to get one because of the hinge cracks though.
So I want a new one to come out, but it won't be soon.
I'm almost sure though that if/when a new design comes out, it's gonna ditch GBA support. I don't mind though because by the time that one comes out, everyone who's wanted a DS will have one, making GBA support not a big deal. Plus I know when I say this that I'm not alone, I'm pretty excited to see how sleek and compact they can make it.

You can already do that. They have cartridges that use Micro SD to perform those features.
And no they don't need to make a new DS or a new PSP. They just came out with a plenty powerful PSP, Sony isn't nintendo. They can't just release 20 different remakes of the same system. They upgraded a lot of features from PSP to PSP 2k series and tons of people are mad because they can't use the new features on the non upgraded one... So...
Hopefully Nintendo will back off of releasing new consoles for a while. They do way to may remakes, rehashes, and redesigns.
In all due fairness, the PS2 was still selling well for a long time, even after the PS3 was announced. Given, it wasn't flying off shelves like the DS and it's many colors have around xmas times. I doubt they would remodel it again, though. Maybe a bundle with a new color. But you never know.. Nintendo is crazy and their announcements have been totally unexpected in recent times.
