So last week my old TV broke and I picked up a new TV and unlike my old one it has VGA and HDMI inputs. Now I know all about the VDIGI HDMI upscaler but I don't feel like setting $60 back for that. Now their VGA cable is only $40 which may not seem like a lot cheaper but $20 is big when you are as cheap as me.

Do you think I would see any improvement over Component with VGA or should I just save up for the HDMI cable? I know they are both unnecessary since I all ready have the Component cables but I would like to have the best image possible.

It depends on the TV, some are better with other things. Either way I don't think there would be an improvement. If you do get it, let us know how it s. And those HDMI upscalers are supposed to be crap, they don't work very well.

1. Upscalers produce poop like quality. They're nothing but a scam because whatever they enhance they also add lag to

2. Nah, unless you have different quality connections on your TV they're going to do the same

Well I all ready have the Component its more of a matter of me trying to free up the Component spot on my TV. I have a new 19" HDTV and it only has one component which I have to split between the Wii and the PS2. With the VGA I could have the Wii in there and the PS2 on Component. Its not that big of a deal and I don't mind switching out it would just be nice. I think the switching between Wii, PS2 and Xbox(Original) on my old TV could be what broke the Red Component input.

oh you do....well uh :P to be honest i dont know how ur red input broke, but im sure that it couldnt have been caused by you removing the cables continually (unless ur rly are just tugging on the thing). IMO the VGA thing is just gimmick

Regardless if you use an external upscaler ort the TVs built in upscaler, you are still using an upscaler. Unless the console outputs at the native resolution of the TV, upscaling is impossible to avoid no matter what connection you use. Different upscalers do a better job than others.

On a 19 inch TV, don't bother with the upscaler. You might want to invest in a switch box though and keep using your component cables.

Yeah a switch would be your best bet, you can get one for less than $20. The VGA cable would probably be about the same as component. If there is a difference it won't be much. The upscaler despite what some people are saying does help a bit as it probably upscales better than many tvs but isn't worth $60, and as you only have a 19" tv you wouldn't notice it anyway.
