I'm a happy Wii owner, but I also have the 360. I can't help but notice how, while Nintendo's WiFi is free, it is subpar compared to Xbox Live. My question is: Would you be willing to pay for a better online for the Wii? Imagine it- you could create something similar to a gamertag, there would be personal profiles, and the player's stats could be tracked for ranking systems depending on the games. I would certainly be willing to pay for a Nintendo version of Xbox Live. Would you?

not really no. im just facing the fact that Wii is not a very good online system. i mean c'mon: extremely laggy games(exept mario kart and GH3), those anoying as hell friend codes, no clans, no headsets, no communication whatsoever. id rather play online with PS3.

Considering that I think the Internet is something that should be free for everyone to use to begin with, and that you already have to pay a crapload of money out to Nintendo for their vc and wiiware games, not to mention the wii games and peripherals and the wii itself - which doesn't even have much storage space - I don't think you should have to pay Nintendo jack to play their games. I pay 15 bucks a month for world of warcraft for one reason - it's a game that I think it fun and well-worth the money. I'm not going to pay 30 bucks a month yet just so I can trade and battle pokemon with people, and race other players - especially not on games that used to be absolutely free to play online.

I think as far as console games are conserned, there should be absolutely no monthly fees.

No. Like many Wii owners, I am a "casual" gamer. I enjoy playing online, but I don't play that often. I abhor the idea of making monthly payments for a service that I will only take advantage of occasionally.

Depends on the extra features I would get... I would say that $5 - $7 / month would be quite justifiable, but no more then that... At least for the casual crowd. If 3rd party devs will start charging for online play on their servers, the game will likely flop - think SEGA and PSO I &II and III...

Never, like many have said, online should be free to use. I am not a big enough online gamer that I couldn't live without it, and would rather not have it at all then have to pay extra to use all the features in a game I already paid for.

i actually would not want to pay for on-line to make it as good as xbox live, key differences include lag, and voice chat, gamer tags,

it's not really worth paying money

I understand where you are all coming from and I only post this to get a discussion going, but I think that 50 bucks a year (Xbox Live yearly cost) is well worth it. I have the prime online games for the Wii and find myself not caring whether I win or lose. If I win, so what? It doesn't go down for any records, or at least not any that affect the game. I like the direction they're going in with Mario Kart Wii's online, because that is getting into ranks and comparing your results to people around the world. I still want a profile and voice communication over the Internet like the two other consoles have, and I think a lot of wii fans would agree with me.

I think Nintendo should be paying consumers for its lame joke of an online service. Lines of friend code, no communication whatsoever, and lack of any kind of profile make the Wii's online service completely laughable. Xbox Live is a great service that is well worth the price of admission, however, in terms of free, the PS3's PlayStation Network is pretty admirable as well. Nintendo could easily better themselves with improved online functionality without charging consumers. It wouldnt change the fact that 90% of the games are garbage on the Wii, so to think it would have a large online community would also be a bit laughable.TheXboxgamer73

This was a really really simple question and there was no need to turn it into a bashing spree. We all know that Nintendo has a pretty bad Online "service" but the TC was asking "would you pay for a better service?" like Xbox Live.

All in all i don't think Nintendo should have to charge people for a improved online service.. The PS3 doesnt have friend codes, and you can also communicate over a mic and system messages, and it's also free.

Nobody should charge for online unless they have dedicated servers. I don't care about tracking, friends lists, cross game invites... I just want to play online without having laggy connections due to bad host choices.

Why do you even post in the Wii forum?

You just parade around from topic to topic saying how much Wii games suck. Somehow you manage to slap it in every post.

If you hate the console so much, surely you have better things to do than talk about it, riight?

only if it was like xbox live. as you can see, the online systems that are free are crappy. the wii has limitations with communications and doesn't have many online games, and the PS3's online is OK, and it's getting somewhat better now that they will be coming out with a bluetooth headset and HOME(creates a better organized friends list). i would definetly pay money for an online system that includes full communication with friends and more online games.

presonally no. I like the idea of free online. and i think that P2P is not a great way to go about it, especially when you take into consideration what Ovirew said,

you already have to pay a crapload of money out to Nintendo for their vc and wiiware games, not to mention the wii games and peripherals and the wii itself - which doesn't even have much storage space - I don't think you should have to pay Nintendo jack to play their games. I think as far as console games are conserned, there should be absolutely no monthly fees.

Ovirew

The bold stuff is what i agree with a lot, but he does make a good point. with how much we paid for the console, and how much it is for VC games, and the wiiware, and so on.

If ninty decided to go P2P, i would be one VERY unhappy ninty fan.

No, I don't play games on my wii that much to pay for it. Plus, the games that everyone has anticipated for SUCK. Mario Kart Wii's gameplay has the depth of a kiddie pool, and Brawl's servers are so terrible, I feel like I'm playing a completely different game when I go online.

nope. other platforms do it for free (except the 360)...ninty have no excuses. the only thing they need to sort out though is coms. after that, if they have systems similar to mario kart, then there sorted.

I'm in Australia and the rules of Xbox Live work differently here due to our primary phone/internet service provider, Telstra, has been greedy and screwed around with them. Telstra is run by the government so they can screw around with anything they want. If Nintendo launched a similar system to Xbox Live here, Telstra would probably screw up that as well. So no, I really don't want an Xbox Live system for Wii. Considering the alternative, Friendcodes arent too bad.

And no, I'm not with Telstra, however it wil lstill effect me because they will get all control.

No because my dad would keep me off online if you did have to pay (for him, unless it's for the computer, if online isn't free, nobody in the house can use it).

Seeing as I don't care enough for online gaming, I'd have to say no -- Plus, I can play a better version of online on my PC (Steam) for free anyway, so why would I want to pay?

I am not sure if Ii would pay for it, depends in my opinion how good it is. I wouldn't mind a gamertag sort of thing but I would like if they included their own specail thing just to make it different.

Because this thread discusses multiple systems, it should be in System Wars. Thanks.
