As in a true sequel to Super Mario 64?
I sure would.

No, I rather have a Galaxy 3 or something new than another Mario 64. I'm not even sure what a Mario 64 2 would be except for just a bunch of big maps to dump you in, which I don't really consider as a fun concept.
Absolutely not. Mario 64 was a terrible direction for the series IMO. The 2D marios and the Galaxy games do it right

I think the Galaxy games are actually a step backwards and more limited. There is not even a real hub world in SMG 2. I'll agree the 2D games were the best but platformers have evolved since then.

Agreed. To me, SM64 is still the best 3D Mario game, the galaxy games just have too linear levels for my taste. We already have Mario 64 DS, we don't need anymore Mario 64. I really don't even think we need anymore Galaxy

IMO platformers are best when they are straight forward and well designed point A to point B obstacle coarses where challenge is derived from making it to the end alive with sheer platforming skill rather than figuring out what to do in a loosely designed open world.
The only 3D platformers that did it the way I liked it were Rayman 2, and the Galaxy games
Platformers actually hasn't changed, Galaxy is far more in line with the rare modern platformer than Mario 64 is. I would rather something like Galaxy with a focus on platforming over exploration. But I wouldn't turn down a Mario 64 like experience, I had and still do have a blast with that game.I think the Galaxy games are actually a step backwards and more limited. To be fair, We have not played any of the Galaxies yet... But we will once we get a WiiU..
That being said, I love Super Mario 64. I would love another Mario game in its Vein. That would be fantastic. Why couldn't they do both a Galaxy 3 (U) and that other Mario "64 like" project...
The whole idea behind SM64 is exploringa 3D world for the first time ever, a sequel wouldn't be that good
If you are asking if I want the next 3D Mario to be 64-bit on an HD platform, not really. But a game in the same vein as Super Mario 64, without any gimmicks like F.L.U.D.D. or gravitational pulls, then yes, that would be cool. I like Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy a lot, maybe more than SM64, but I'd like them to just do a standard Mario adventure in 3D again. Although, that's what the new 3DS game looks like. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

....rly bro? since when are gameplay mechanics gimmicks? i swear george lopez i dont get this place sometimes
People say that, but what would you consider original, just another gimmick tied to standard platformer mechanics? As long as it has some great new stages, new power ups, that original enough for me. If they toss in a new gimmick, fine. But even if it was standard Mario like the 3DS game, I would be more than happy with that. lol I just saw your second post when I was about to hit submit. Your thinking of the word "gimmick" as a negative denotation, because so many not so bright individuals have tried to use it like that in the past few years. But a gimmick only indicates a selling point, something that separates it from the pack. Yes the gravity mechanic was a gimmick, same as the movie like presentation in Uncharted is a gimmick or the Batman license in the Arkham series is a gimmick. Its not a bad thing to have a gimmick, everything has a gimmick. Well not the FPS genre, but everything else :PHow about something original?

Define 'standard'. Has the fandom really reached such a point where there should be a 'standard' to how Mario games should be made and played in a certain restricted format, then only we can enjoy it? Is Mario 64 the only 'normal' game while the rest of them are just deviants that can't be considered 'true' Mario games?
I don't know, but I'd rather Mario games be unique and varied than everything following a similar, formulaic 'standard' until I get sick of it.

haha oh thts a coincidence:P Im aware tht there is multiple ways to use the word, but I cannot agree with the notion that gameplay mechanics are gimmicks.(thts right, im different what u gonna do? 8) )Every game has a theme tht designers mold their gameplay around. My ideal definition of a gimmick is something that doesn't add tht much to the experience. It could be a good thing or a bad thing, but because its not tht important it doesn't motivate the theme of the game. If SMG didn't have all tht physics mumbo jumbo in the game then it would be a completely different game. thts how i see it anyway.
"...without anygimmickslike F.L.U.D.D. or gravitational pulls..." To me it seems as if he's implying tht those gameplay mechanics are bad & should be removed which is why I am making the assumption tht he's using it as a negative term. hope tht makes sense as to why im taking it the bad way
No, but I certainly want 3D platformers in the same vein back. I need something like Banjo back, or at least bring Rayman 4 :( They should keep doing their own thing with Mario meanwhile.
I agree, in the N64 days Rare made better mario64-like games than nintendoNo, but I certainly want 3D platformers in the same vein back. I need something like Banjo back, or at least bring Rayman 4 :( They should keep doing their own thing with Mario meanwhile.

Are you kidding? i love the huge maps in mario 64. mario galaxy maps just felt way to small and limited. No, I rather have a Galaxy 3 or something new than another Mario 64. No, I'm definitely not. I greatly preferred the Galaxy games' linear design, because they played like old school platformers. You can throw in multiple paths, but platformers should be about actual platforming, levels, and providing a challenge to finish. Give those big maps and needless hub worlds to franchises like Banjo, because I don't believe dumping the player in the middle of nowhere and collecting coins are fun.

I don't see how the Galaxy games are a step back. Actually, that doesn't even make sense to me.
First of all, the controls in Galaxy are so much better to the point where Mario 64's controls actually feel slightly janky now.
Secondly, the level designs in Galaxy and much more creative and clever. Sure, they are much more linear, but they have far more imagination and variety whereas Mario 64's levels feel bigger, but more basic. Mario 64 really does feel like a first foray into 3D where they couldn't really get all that creative because they were trying to make it all work on a 3D plain. Galaxy feels like Nintendo has fully mastered the 3D gamespace and can be as creative as they want.
I would rather have the big worlds of Mario 64 back. If Nintendo wants to do a linear Mario, then the company should just do a 2D Mario game. I actually want Nintendo to try different direction with the franchises that the company has. Mario Sunshine brought a completely new setting to Mario, and that is what made the game special. There was no fire world, ice world, or water world. I like the new creatures Sunshine had. Those guys that flipped you up in the air were cool. It would be cool if Nintendo put Mario in a completely different setting than what we are used to.
