More people need to try the Pikmin games. Especially Pikmin 2. There is just as much quality put into Pikmin 2 as there is put into Mario or Zelda. Actually I would argue more. There is more content in Pikmin 2 than there is in Super Smash Bros Melee in fact. Lengthy campaign that should take around 40 hours to complete 100%, Treasure catalogue to look at and read up on all of the 201 treasures, Piklopedia to look at and read up on the many enemies and bosses you have encounterd, Challenge mode to test your skills (30 challenges in total with high scores and you acheive a purple flower ranking if you complete a challenge without loosing a single Pikmin), There is also unlockable cinematics, and multiplayer battle and co-op modes! Not to mention that there is NO game even remotely like Pikmin. It is 100% unique!
P.S. I have collected all 201 treasures and received purple flowers on all 30 challenges as well as mastered the addicting multiplayer battle mode. I WANT MORE!
seriously, nintendo still has the best platformer, feel free to tell me about 1 game that actully beats super mario bros. on the nesPokemon is the only franchise they have that's number one in it's genre
I don't know where you're coming up with Mario and Zelda being the good ones anymore

totally agree with this. pikmin is a great series that needs to be put on the same level as mario and zelda. it is great and i can't wait for pikmin 3. it prob. will get the popularity eventually though. it's just that mario and zelda have had longer to grow their fan base.

What are you talking about the NES and N64 for?
Yeah 1985 and 1998, if you hadn't noticed it's 2009. Times have changed
Right now, today, the best thing Nintendo does is Pokemon because they own that genre.
No one cares about what they used to do

Many, many platformers are better than the original maro bros. The original mario bros is one of the weakest in the series.
[QUOTE="TheLordMagnus"] F-Zero was pawned off on SEGA (dear God),.redban2What's wrong with that? SEGA made F-Zero GX, and that turned out good. It was mediocre. And yes, as people in here have pointed out, Mario and Zelda sell more. Well, that's my point. The reason they sell more is because the obvious difference in quality and production values between those franchises and the other franchises. Nintendo is too afraid to invest in their other franchises. For a company that claims to take risks, they still like to play it safe in regards to software.

He thinks Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts is better than Galaxy...even though some wouldn't call it a platformer. Honestly, I don't know why he thinks it's a platformer, I mean, he thinks that Smash Bros is a sports game.I think you're being a bit unfair when saying that Nintendo doesn't put comparable effort into all of its IPs and just trying to prove your info on sales numbers alone. The reason Mario, Pokemon, and Zelda sells more than franchises like Donkey Kong or StarFox is simply a matter of them being games that appeal to more people. Let's compare Super Mario Galaxy and Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat, shall we? Both games were developed by Nintendo's EAD team, and both games have been considered to be innovative platformers by a lot of people. The biggest difference between the two I've seen is that SMG sold a heck of a lot more than DK:JB did. That's not to say that one was cared about more than the other. I personally thought that F-Zero GX for the GameCube was awesome, and the DS has seen three solid Kirby titles, including Kirby Superstar Ultra, which I would recommend to anyone reading this that has a DS. Heck, let's even add Metroid into the discussion because all of the games in that series of late have been amazing, and that series still struggles to get a million-seller most of the time.
My point is that these franchises are what they are at this point, and Nintendo probably knows that better than anyone. That's not to say that they're not willing to do the same things with Mario and Zelda as they are with anything else (those franchises have also had games developed by other developers, you know), but regardless of what happens, the top franchises will simply sell better. This can be said with any publisher and any group of games. I'm sure there have been better games made by EA than the Madden games every year, but you can be sure that it's going to be the top-selling game for the company. It's one thing to wish that these games were more successful, but it's another to say that they aren't because they're not being treated the same way.
Nintendo definitely needs to branch out a bit more. They also need to bring some of their franchises into the 21st century (*coughZeldacough*),and actually make them with some passion, unlike some of recent uninspired installments (*coughPokemoncough*).VGobbsesserriiiicolaaa!

From this month's anniversary issue of Nintendo Power...
Nintendo Power: Why do you think Super Smash Bros. continues to be so popular even though interest in traditional fighting games has dwindled?
Sakurai: I think it's because it is, in fact, not a fighting game. The nature of it is similar to a sports game in which the player shoots an opponent as if it were a ball. The results are different [every time you play], which, I think, is also a unique and attractive quality of the game.

I think you misunderstood his analogy.... He didn't say the game is a sports game. He said it has a similar nature. If I said that the nature of riding a motorcycle is similar to riding a bike, it doesn't mean that I think my Huffy is a Harley.
you should know by now that Nintendo isn't about making new IPs(even though they do make em they are just never concentrating on them) they have been milking franchises ever since i can remember. if you are looking for new IP's i suggest you get a new console. cause usually Nintendo relies on there 3rd party party support.(let alone every other console has 3rd party support aswell "so what am i talking abou"t?? your screwed)
...How does Nintendo expect these franchises to sell better if they don't invest the same effort into these games?...TheLordMagnusWho said they expected any such thing? They've made all of these decisions conciously, and knwoing Nintendo, they are for the mid-to-long-term. The short-term falls by the wayside with Nintendo. That's why they're still around, if you ask me...

There's this girl that you are totally into,
you have 3 shirts to wear tonight; one red, one blue, and one green.
You look good in all of them,
but you look best in red, and it's her favorite color.
Which would you wear to get her attention?
the blue one lol wait??? what does this have to do with the TC???[QUOTE="danger_ranger95"]the blue one lol wait??? what does this have to do with the TC???There's this girl that you are totally into,

well in comparison to what the TC is saying (if this is truely Nintendo's stratedgy)...you would wear the red shirt right, to get the girl's attention.
Nintendo concentrates on it's red shirt (games) because they know they look good (or sell).
I'm not saying I agree, but again...if this is their supposed way of thinking and not spending as much time on other games...I would do the same thing. Just trying to get people to think ol' chap.
