For all those people complaining about me not playing the 2D metroids, I have played them, they were OK and yes I believe they're overrated, but that's besides the point, you can't say to me to play the older ones before I start hating on the new one.....

that's like me comparing Mario 1 to Mario Galaxy, it was a different time with different gameplay.

Metroid Other M (about 4 hours in) so far feels as if I'm in 2003 or something, the controls need updating.

I baffed!

I played Metroid Prime 1 on GC, it was slow but immersive and you really felt like you were lost sometimes...

Skip 2 and 3 (have yet to play them :D)

Just got a copy of Metroid Other M from my mates shop and WHAT IN THE BLUE HELL IS THIS!?!?

If I wanted to play Hayabusa in Ninja Gaiden I would've hooked up my microwa...I mean my Xbox to my TV and broke some XXL Xbox pads....

Seriously, OK so I should've watched the trailers or something before getting it, this is like a spin off (in terms of how it plays) to the Metroid series, I can't play this, it's like RE5 ****shooting and Ninja Gaiden ****enemies! For me this doesn't work......

I was confused as soon as the game told me to remove the nunchuk!!!

zideeq

Based on your first post i would have to you probably havent played any of the 2d metroid games for the simple fact that anyone whos played Other M would IMMEDIATLY compare it to the 2d metroid titles before even considering comparing it to the prime series. seriously, who are you trying to fool here?

EDIT: also thats a pretty bad example of comparing Mario 1 to Mario Galaxy since one is fully 2d and the other is fully 2D. a better example would be mabey Mario 1 to....NSMBW, i think but evne then NSMBW doesnt have any 3d portions of the game. your Metroid knowlege need sserious improvement dude...

I have played Super Metroid and Prime and with it being a mix of both I can tell you the controls are awkward and the way you heal and refill is annoying as anything.

Get good enough and you'll rarely need to use the recharge. It's there for emergency purposes only. The best way to keep your health up is to learn how to best utilize the dodge and lethal strike mechanics. If you think the recharge is annoying, then put yourself in a position where you never need to use it.

Ah young kiddies who only knows of Prime series...this is Metroid back to its roots with enhancements. ;) Its a great game..loving this one more than Prime series - cause I don't get motion sickness. :P

superbuuman

Well I prefer Prime ad Corruption a little over Other M. But basically you are correct. The problem is the young babies who think the Primes are the examples ofclassic Metroid gameplay. But Again, Other M shares the conventions more than those. Oh well. Their bad :D

um lets see which rock at yellowstone you were under ,

it was well known this was a snes like experience not a metroid prime 2 or 1 or 3 or ds , which you never even played 2 and 3 or hunters so i ll stop here

and asume you played it for even 5 seconds before realising it was a different type of metroid

Oh, wow. Here's someone who doesn't know what he's talking about. The only way Metroid: Other M is more "back to the roots" than the Prime games is that it follows the main story. However, Metroid Prime is much more a genuine Metroid game in its athmosphere and design.

How is Other M not more like previous Metroids than the Prime games? The gameplay is like Super Metroid in 3D with more actiony combat. Metroid Prime is a freaking FPS. With bigger maps, more exploration, different visors, different beams that are good for certain things, etc. Other M has almost everything from Super Metroid.

Other M pretty much kills the exploration part until the very end of the game. Doors magically lock behind you and you can't stray from the path in any way. This is something that has always been essential in Metroid games -- exploration. In other games in the series (excluding Fusion), when you found missiles for example, the world opened up to you and you could explore the environments all you wanted and find new expansions and energy tanks. In Other M? Not so much. Missiles are also no longer important since you have an unlimited amount of them. The joy of finding a missile expansion is gone because of this. The Sense Move essentially destroys combat. You're pretty much invincible as long as you keep tapping any direction of the D-pad.

Music is something that has always been important in previous Metroid games, here it's non-exsistant, and no i don't count 'ominous sounds' as music. Instead of being alone on a big planet, you're accompanied by Galactic Federation soldiers which eliminates the isolated feeling that is present in almost every other Metroid game.

Other M does NOT go back to the roots of Metroid as much as Prime does. The only difference in Prime is that you see the world trough Samus' eyes, but it's still as Metroid-ish as Metroid gets. If Other M goes back to anything, it's Fusion.
