Link Pretty exciting battle system, IMO here are some of the stuff I could pick up with my sub-par Japanese skills - Seamless battles (seems like if you encounter an enemy, you press B to unsheathe your sword) - "Arts" (pretty much special ability from tales games that you can assign on certain buttons, looks like). Requires strategic uses. - When battle starts, the party members appear and engage on the enemy automatically - When you are attacking big monsters, you can try attacking its side or back, making it go down, and pull some "Arts" move to deal massive damage - Three blue bars on top left corner of the screen is "Party Gauge", and when it fills up, you can pull three consecutive "Chain Attack" with great damage - During "Chain Attack" you strategically choose the "Arts" you are going to perform consecutively - There is also something called "Vision" - During "Vision", right before enemy pulls off a devastating attack, you get to see what happens if you don't do something beforehand (like which weak parts you are going to get attacked, etc I think) - And based on that, you can successfully prepare for the enemy attack. - The thing on "Vision" is still not clear on me, but it's something like that. :P - All in all, you have to use your "Arts" very carefully to win battle (or so the announcer says)

The Vision aspect works as you described, basically you get a timer before the enemy lands a killing blow and you have to find a way to save yourself.

I was busy noticing how level 32's were having problems downing a level 16. Usually rpg fans cry overpowered but their attacks seemed to do only slightly less than your normal while their special attacks were just as likely to kill.

Everything looks fine in motion, especially considering there is 4-6 readouts on the screen at any time. I'm not sure how much noise the Wii itself will make during this game, but it will probably churn as much as Little King Story.

Overall, this still seems to put every rpg on the system to shame. Even if Youtubers are calling it a lesser version of MH3.

The part at the end made me lol. "MONADO BUSTAAAA!"

Overall, the battle system looks a lot more fun than a turn-based JRPG. One question, are your other party members controlled by the AI or do you manage them yourself?

thx for the clarification, and I think the video emphasizes how the effective usage of "Arts" can be very crucial in battles, so that's why normal attacks don't make much difference. And I think by looking at the size, that monster might have been one of those low attack points with ridiculously high HP. [QUOTE="Sky-"]The part at the end made me lol. "MONADO BUSTAAAA!" Controlled by AI, but I'm assuming there is some indirect controls coupled with strategic behavioral options (heal first, attack first, use attacks that uses MP, etc)

Looks really fun. I was worried that the battle system would be a typical boring RPG system that just gets in the way of the rest of the game, but it looks like it might be one of the main reasons to get the game.

Looks OK. FF12 battle system. I'm not sure I'll care for the automated attacks and Final Fantasy games bore me to death. If there are tons of arts to play with and develop, it could be decent.
