We've seen Nintendo's DS get repackaged multiple times: the DS to the DS Lite to the DSi to DSiXL .We're seeing the 3DS go up to the 3DS XL. We get bigger screens.

Why not put a Wii U Gamepad XL on the shelves sometime in the future?

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTC0zqynTrbCJx99fz1Hly

Nintendo could simply give it longer battery life and size up the dimensions properly while increasing the touch screen size from 6.2" to say, between 8" to 9"

Wouldn't take much but it could boost controller sales. Of course this is longer down the road as seeing the Wii U Gamepads won't be selling individually on the shelves at launch.

Will Nintendo release a Wii U Gamepad XL? Should they? What do you think?

The only improvement I could see them making to it would be adding an HD screen. I could not possibly see them making it bigger.

If anything, they would release a slimmer version which I also doubt as the controller is very lightweight. I believe it weighs less than an iPad.

I pictured a small child being crushed by a giant gamepad in the living room.

And then I pictured Andre the Giant holding a gamepad that looked normal sized.

They'll probably do a redesign of some sort, but being a Japanese company, I doubt that it'll be much bigger. Once it comes out and any of its problems become apparent, Nintendo can see what they might need to change.

Of course not.
It's not that of a bad idea when you consider battery life (which is yet again terrible), but the controller is already huge.

Nintendo has never made revisions on their home consoles and their controllers. I'll assume this will be no different.

I believe they meant the overall structure, like saying the N64 controller always had the 3 handles, it was never changed to 2 or 1 handle. The Wavebird was wireless but it was the same GC controller, the same goes for WM+.Anyway to answer the topic title, no that's not going to happen.

The only person here that has embarrassed themselves, and have failed in any way, is the one who brought up such a ludicrous idea as a bigger WiiU Gamepad.

Oh wait, that was you.

Moving on...

The only things they could realistically change would be better battery life and maybe trim down size/wieght. Those things are not necessarily needed though. They also can not alter the screen size or resolution as that would cause all sorts of issues. Think 3DS to 3DSxl. The games will be coded to run at a certain resolution on the gamepad. This is why the 3DSxl maintains the same resolution as its predecessor.

If a revision does happen, I doubt it will be that different from the current gamepad. I think the only reasonable changes they could make, is finding a way to make the controller cheaper, changes the controller's cover to something that isnt shiney so finger prints wont show, improving the battery, increasing the wireless range of the controller, and I guess if people find problems with the screen such as scratching and being overly reflective, change the screen to address any major problems that people find with it.

But anyway, for now there is no need to change the design at all. We SHOULD be glad that Nintendo changed the design of the controller from the original design.

The thing already doesn't weigh anything, cant cut down the size without making the screen smaller. And the battery life is not really relevant for something you cant take out the house. When the battery is dying, plug in the AC adapter and your good to go. The thing has a range of I think IGN said its like 20ft, no one should be unable to find a plug within 20ft.

Nintendo has to release the original Gamepad seperatly first. Maybe they'll do a bundle with a game that takes advantage of multiple gamepads (Wii U Play?)

I don't imagine they would do any size changes but i could foresee screen improvements like gorilla glass and multi touch gestures. that'd be sweetah!

I can see Nintendo eventually releasing a Wii U Gamepad Plus. Which would be equal to the Kindle Fire tablet of today. But Nintendo would release it 2-3 years after the Wii U launch. So the Gamepad will be able to function as a basic tablet away from the Wii U console. The current Wii U Gampad tablet controller costs $172.00. So when Nintendo can make a Gamepad Plus in 2015. They will have basic Mii apps etc in a few years.

The Wii U Gamepad is already the biggest controller ever. I cannot see Nintendo making it larger, But turning the Gampad tablet controller into a Basic Tablet computer controller. A.K.A Wii U Gamepad Plus.

nope. That wont happen for the same reason that the Vita or smartphones haven`t allowed 3D display, and why only the top screen of the 3DS has 3D. Touch screens cannot be 3D screens.

imo, they will make many improvements to the gamepad over the years (battery length, screen quality, etc.) but they will never release a new model of gamepad.

Are you sure about this? I'm pretty sure there's some 3D smartphones with touchscreen displays.

that tech would be in bad faith in that scratches, smudges and all sorts of imperfections reduce the quality and even viability of any 3D display, and those imperfections are common on touch screens. I suppose it could be possible with a better screen somehow but still, not good. I'm not an expert on this but I think as more imperfections on the screen build up (even minor ones), the screen will hurt your eyes more and more.

Nintendo tipically redesigns their handelds a few times, never their consoles. They just release new colors of their home console or a game bundle, but the only redesign I remember was the SNES, and honestly I didn't even think it was a redesign, just it was shaped differently in the U.S. vs the rest of the world.
