Just something new, Im getting tired of Pokemon threads and the plain old "whats your favorite...." threads so I decided lets mix it up with a experimental/observation thread.

Age: 17

Gender: Male

My thoughts on the DS: I think the DS is the best gaming handheld to date, period. It provides quality games in nearly every huge genre, gives the standard handheld gaming a fresh coat of paint with its dual screen and briliant touchscreen and it also expanded gaming audiences with the touch functionality which is a huge deal in my eyes. The touchscreen was a genius idea on Nintendos part, it definitely goes beyond the traditional system interface and controls. Nintendo really outdid themselves, and so have third parties which have really put the DSs features to incredible use, I applaud them.

Of course, this is all just my opinion.

My current top 5

  1. 7th Dragon
  2. Etrian Odyssey
  3. Mario Kart DS
  4. Black Sigil
  5. Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow

Anyone else?

My thoughts on the DS:What started out as a fanatical obsession has died down to a somewhat less enthusiastic approach. I guess it's bound to happen to anything that reaches commercial success. The good game to bad game ratio on a weekly release basis was something in the range of 2-1 back almost 3 years ago. Now, there's so much junk coming out that it's really begun to discourage me from my true passion with the DS: collecting games. Some weeks, 8-10 shovelware titles get released, and we only see one good quality game maybe every other month. This upcoming holiday season will be less atrocious I guess. I've just wished for the past year to two years that Nintendo would enforce some kind of quality control.

But they're making way too much money. Just my opinion. I love the DS nonetheless.

My current top 5

  1. Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
  2. Etrian Odyssey
  3. Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier
  4. Contact
  5. Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime

Honorable Mention: MarioKart DS (of course), Trauma Center, and Advance Wars: Dual Strike.

Thoughts: It's a great handheld of course. I've had a lot of fun moments with this little thing. Mainly during my last 2 high school years where me and my friends would gather playing all sorts of games together on the DS, we had this huge table playing games like Bomberman, Tetris and so forth. Everyone had fun, and of course I won ;) Nintendo did a great job by introducing a simple concept of touch screen and blending it with dual screen. It works well with a lot of games and to be honest I was a bit intimidated by the idea of playing on "two screens", course once I got into it (sadly to say my first game Final Fantasy 3 didn't really use the touch screen well.) it was fun and easy to use.

Top 5:

In no particular order:

-Hotel Dusk: Room 215

-Tetris DS

-Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow

-Pokemon Platinum

-Advance Wars: Days of Ruin

I'm sure there are more (namely RPGs), but I think those are just really my favorite (from what I can remember in any case :P)

My thoughts on the DS:
The DS is one of my most favorite systems ever. It has a huge lineup that appeals to me so if I don't like a certain game there's always many more to take its place. I love the innovative touch controls especially for games like Kirby: Canvas Curse etc. I prefer the DSi to the other 2 because I don't own many GBA games but when I need to play them I'll just break out my Game Boy Micro so I don't have to carry all the extra stuff the DS has to play them. The cameras are a decent replacement for my broken digital camera and there's downloadable games. The DS' online could be better but that's really the only bad thing I have to say about it.

My current top 5

1. Yoshi's Island DS
2. New Super Mario Bros.
3. Pokemon Platinum
4. Kirby: Canvas Curse
5. Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time

My thoughts on DS: Even though I miss my PSP, I love playing my DS. The touchscreen is excellent and there is a much larger variety of games which the PSP does not have. I see a great future in the DS universe. I've had it for for about 2 months now and I love it. The DS forum is great and I love talking to new people. And shout outs to TriniPlayer who is a great friend of mine and helped persuade me into buying a DSL.

Top 5: Bleach: Blade of Fate, Top Spin 3, Ninja Gaiden DS, Asphalt: Urban GT, Scurge:Hive

My thoughts on the DS: I've always been a fan of both Nintendo and hand-held gaming so the DS seemed like a natural fit for me. Although the DS Phat and I didn't see eye-to-eye at first(resulting in me selling it), I've come to love the DS and its wonderful library of games. There are just so many good games from all genres represented on the DS. In all honesty, I probably wouldn't be gaming anymore if not for the Nintendo DS.

My current top 5

  1. The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (This game utilizes all the unique aspects of the DS...touch screen, microphone, clamshell design, ect)
  2. Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure (Puzzle & Platforming at its best)
  3. Ninjatown (Who knew a tower defense game could be so charming AND addicting?)
  4. Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords (I spent more time playing this game than any other DS game I own)
  5. Elite Beat Agents (EBA + DS = Match made in Heaven. My only complaint is only one release state-side. Would love to see a sequel with DLC on DSi)

**Honorable Mention: Bleach:The Blade of Fate(or Dark Souls) and Advance Wars (either of them)**

Thoughts: The best system I've had since the SNES. It has as many, if not even more great games than my old favorite SNES had. And being portable is nice because of the convenience factor. I've had mine for 5 months and managed to collect 17 games so far; still got about 40 others I want. I'm not worried about the new shovelware because there's plenty of good from all the years of not having one. I look forward to the next gen handheld from Nintendo, but I don't mind waiting at least 2 or more years since I haven't had one for long.

Favorites:

5. Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow

4. Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin

3. Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia

2. Dragon Quest 4

1. Dragon Quest 5

I list them as my favorites because I like them and they're the main reason I bought a DS in the first place.

Thoughts: The DS was a big gamble on Nintendo's part. Putting out a system that was labeled before release as gimmicky and not untruthfully, ugly. Apart from that, the PSP was looming over its head like a giant thunder cloud ready to take over the handheld market market for the first time in gaming history. The DS excelled however due to great third party and (obviously) first party support and eventually coalesced a game library unparalleled by any handheld device ever. It has a great diversity of games and there truly is something on it for everyone. I'm going to stop now because I sound like Nintendo PR trying to sell the product....

Current Favourites (Subject to change):

5. Disgaea DS

4. The Legend Of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

3. Mario Kart DS

2. Bleach: Dark Souls

1. Final Fantasy IV

Also, Magical Starsign holds a special place in my heart cause it was my first DS game. Oh and tip of the hat to you -Oath for keeping the DS forum fresh.

My thoughts on the DS: The DS has offered me the best gaming on the go this generation. It gives me platformers, RPG's, adventure games, and multiple other genres that aren't represented as well on other consoles these days. The games are also very affordable and fun. I had given up on the DS a little bit after it had launched because it didn't have as many games as I would've liked in the earlier days, but since 2006 I've been having one hell of a time with this system.

My current top 5

  1. Moon
  2. KORG DS-10
  3. Black Sigil
  4. Nostalgia
  5. Contact

Thoughts: Before the next handheld came out, I was hoping for something with either a touch screen or an accelerometer (along with a great library). I saw the DS and was so excited. It has great potential and some already great games. There are some interesting, to say the least, DSiWare games, but I'm hoping for some advances in that area. I also saw that they will be releasing DSi only games in the fall. If they are First Party games, Nintendo had better (and probably will) do a good job on them to promote DSi sales.

Top 5 Games

5. Pokemon Diamond

4. Kirby Super Star Ultra

3. Mario Kart DS

2. *Reserved for Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story*

1. *Reserved for Scribblenauts*

[Editor's note: For 1 and 2, I am sort of buying into the hype here, but I haven't played many DS games besides those three]

My thoughts on the DS: Hmm...I love the DS. I prefer handheld gaming to consoles, and as I don't have a PSP (yet), it's my favorite current-gen system.

My current top 5

  1. Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time (probably to be replaced by BIS after it releases)
  2. Mario Kart DS (my first DS game)
  3. Super Mario 64 DS (I'm wishing that I hadn't traded this in now...I miss it!)
  4. Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon (this is the reason I'm addicted to strategy games)
  5. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Like PiT, this will most likely be replaced after Spirit Tracks comes out)

Wow...my top 5 are all first party. Although I think that an honorable mention goes to Chrono Trigger...

My thoughts on the DS:The DS is an incredible handheld system, the sheer number of different quality titles from so many genres is just staggering. I only wish that certain games didn't force the touch screen control, its cool and implemented well but sometimes i just wanna use the buttons. Also i wish more 2D games were on the system, but that's just my personal preference :P

My current top 5

  1. Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
  2. Mario Kart DS
  3. New Super Maro Bros.
  4. Chrono Trigger
  5. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney

My thoughts on the DS: Other than the Gameboy Micro, I've never been without a Nintendo handheld. I grew up with Nintendo, so it was only natural I purchase a DS. I like my DS a lot, but I don't feel I get a lot of use out of it. A lot of the games I own take no advantage of the touch controls. I prefer RPGs, so I guess it's only natural a lot of them just use the D-pad and buttons. I rarely play my DS during the day as well. I usually play it for about 30 minutes before going to bed. I also have a horrible habit of buying games, playing them for a bit and then stopping and repeating the process with another game. I haven't completed a DS game in a looooong time. I'm currently playing Devil Survivor right now, and I'm pretty sure I'll finish it because I'm an SMT nut. I'm not as attached to my DS as I was with my Gameboy, Gameboy Color, and Gameboy Advance, but it's still a great handheld. I like it more than my PSP, but I'm just not much of a handheld gamer as I was in the past.

My current top 5

  1. Pokemon Diamond/Platinum
  2. Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier
  3. SMT: Devil Survivor
  4. Feel the Magic
  5. Super Mario 64 DS

Honorable Mentions: Meteos, Kirby Canvas Curse, FFIV

First post! Booyah! Age: 20 Gender: Male (we need some more ladies in this thread) Thoughts on the DS: I've had my DS Phat since the Christmas of 2004 when it came out, and initially I was disappointed in its power. The hype was painting it to be as powerful as an N64 which it sadly is not, but I really liked the touchscreen and wifi and all the other features. Now that I've played a lot of games on it I can say I love it - there are so many awesome RPGs and other games that really utilize the dual screens and touch interface that make the graphics complaint dismissible. My Current Top 5 Games:
1. Mario Kart DS (So much replayablility! It never gets old to me)

2. GTA: Chinatown Wars

3. Hotel Dusk: Room 215

4. Peggle: Dual Shot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5. Advance Wars: Dual Strike (Still haven't finished yet...)
Honorable Mention: Super Mario 64 DS (great updated version), Pokemon Diamond, Professor Layton and the Curious Village (gonna play the new one soon), Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt Demo (used to play multiplayer in class with my friends when the DS first came out. the teachers never knew haha)

Age: 19 Gender: Male My thoughts on the DS: Playing the Nintendo handheld since the original GameBoy. My sis wanted one and got Tetris and Super Mario Land for it. Pokemon Blue was my first game and I've never been so hyped for a game again. So at first I got a PSP this gen but when my sis wanted a DS Lite I agreed in sharing it. Now I have to share the DS with my mum who loves to play this Dr Mario game in Brain Age 2. My PSP collects dust for around 1 and a half year and my DS is played everyday. I love my DS and I'm getting the metallic blue DSi when it's available in Europe. My current top 5 Pokemon Diamond The World Ends With You Final Fantasy III Professor Layton I Elite Beat Agents

Thoughts: Started out with Atari (before most, if not ALL of you were born). Got a Gameboy and loved that mostly because you could take it anywhere. Bought a PHAT DS when they first came out and loved it. Still have it, still use it. Prefer simulation/puzzle/rpg type games

Favorites:

1. Currently playing Lost in Blue 2

2&3. Rune Factory 1 and 2 (a little farming, a little killing, a little romance)

4. Phantom Hourglass

5. Sims: Urbz (still makes me laugh)

Feelings on the DS: I oringally got a DS back in November 2005 for the reason to play Resident Evil Deadly Silence. Since then I have a collection of around 30 games and I come and go from it regularly. I didnt play it for a few months until Pokemon Platnium came out and recently I have found some great deals when its comes to RPGS. With handheld being my prefered gaming medium and RPG being my favourite genre there is plenty to choose from - recently picking up Dragon Quest IV and Final Fantasy III. I bought a DSI but the feel of the casing has put me off it until I can find a decent cover... in a way its a waste of money with my original lite still being with me 90% of the time.

Top 5:

  • Pokemon Platnium
  • Resident Evil Deadly Silence
  • Phoenix Wright - Justice for all
  • Final Fantasy III
  • New Super Mario Bros

- I want to say Animal Crossing this game took over my life for 2 years... it nearly ruined my relationship. >.> So for this its EVIL.

My thoughts on the DS: I love it. I think it's the best handheld gaming system so far, and I think there's a lot that can be done with the duel screens and touch screen. Also, the majority of games for the system are very well thought out and put together. Even though the system has been around for, what, five years? It's still bringing new and fresh features to the gaming community.

My top 5:

1. The World Ends With You

2. The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

3. Animal Crossing: Wild World

4. Mario Kart DS

5. My Sims

My thoughts on the DS: I love it. It certainly has much more games I love and am looking forward to than the PSP. I like how it looks, I even like that it has a lot of 2D games, as I love them. Mostly the DS is the best because of the games it has which I love.

Of course, this is all just my opinion.

My current top 5

  1. The Professor Layton Series
  2. The Phoenix Wright series
  3. The World Ends With You
  4. Suikoden Tierkreis
  5. Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars Director's Cut

I'm 100% certain that Kingdom Hearts will take the top spot (as I've tried the gameplay of it, the Japanese version), and I'm going to speculate and say that Scribblenauts and Nostalgia and/or Phantasy Star Zero (or maybe even the newly announced Okami DS) have the potential to top these games in the list currently.

3. Professor Layton and The Curious Village.
4. Mario Kart DS.
5. Pokemon Platinum.

My thoughts on the DS: besides the shovelware and Pokemon, I think the DS overtakes any other handheld, minus GB Advance. I love the innovation and ideas spread across every game, but at times I feel too many ports are made instead of original IPs. The only thing I miss about the DS is graphics, but gameplay far surpases them in the long run.

My current top 5

  2. Elite Beat Agents
  3. The Urbz

Thoughts on the DS: I played it for ther first time the day of Christmas a year ago (as you can guess it was my christmas gift) and I started playing Final Fantasy IV then I got to The World Ends With You and those two games got me in love with the system. You know, every time I read the title it feels like I'm confessing my love to a DS. Who knows why.siLVURcross

lol, it's because of the format. "Age, Sex, and why you like the DS. NOW!"

it seems like an AA intro to me haha. Hi I'm John, I'm 24 and I'm a DS addict.."

*all in unison* "HI JOHN!"

I never seem to have much free time for gaming (always other responsbiilities, things to do etc) so the DS has been fantastic for me. I didn't buy it until about 10 months after it was released as I wanted to wait for more games to appear. I have over 100 games for it now and can say that I'm satisfied with 95% of them. I always look for new releases for DS first, 360 second, pc third, and Wii 4th (unless they are exclusives to Wii). Touch screen controls have been a revelation and has led to some types of games that just weren't possible before. I also love the focus on RPG, puzzle, and platform games. I would say I play my DS 10x more than my Wii, which is somewhat of a dust gatherer.

Hard to choose a top 5 as it depends on my mood, but...

Top 5

  1. Tetris DS
  2. Mario Kart
  3. 42 All Time Classics
  4. Yoshi's Island DS
  5. Trauma Centre

My thoughts on the DS: first I thought it was one of the best handhelds but now I have my doubts about it because of other consoles, lately I'm playing a lot of games on the PC but I'm really looking forward to some games for the DS (mario and sonic at the olympic winter games, zelda, scribblenauts, and more :P )

My current top 5:

  1. Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
  2. Anno 1701
  3. Final Fantasy
  4. Professor Layton ( 1 and 2 )
  5. Civilization Revolution

My thoughts on the DS: The DS is the most used out of all my hand helds. when the DS came out my favorite part was the touch scren it a was always one of the coolest things and i like to see how games work the tuch scren into there game play (world ends with you + Kirby canvas curs). i did like that it tried to expand to many other people with different kinds of games but, the games that are supposed to be geared toreweds[SP] girls i found to be just plane stupid im sorry. thats the only thing i dont like about the DS.

this is all just my opinion.

My current top 5

  1. The world Ends with you
  2. Final Fantasy IV
  3. Final Fantasy III
  4. ---------------------------(reserved for kingdom hearts)
  5. Yoshi's Island DS(cuz i played the snes version to death)

SORRY FOR THE SPELLING ERRORS!!!

The DS is a cool little gadget. I still like the GBA a ton more though. I tend to play my DS through spurts, it's not unusual for me to play it one day and then not pick it up again for another 5 months. I just like the PSP and its games a lot better, I play that almost everyday, just has more compelling games in my opinion. But I'm looking forward to future DS games such as Golden Sun DS, Heart Gold, and Okami. So to sum it all up, DS definitely has its moments, but it's my least played system overall.

Top 5:

  1. The World Ends With You
  2. Pokemon Diamond
  3. Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword
  4. Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
  5. Bleach: The Blade of Fate

Feelings on the ds: It's incredibly addictive. I've spent more time playing my ds than my consoles. The touch screen allows for precision and therefore makes the ds pull off what other handhelds cannot. (I dare you to imagine how annoying it would be to stitch up a patient in a Trauma Center game on a psp.) Not to mention all the awesome point and click adventure games the touch screen allows, since it's a perfect replacement for a mouse. All this and a huge library of games. I don't think it can get better.

Some of my favorite games (it's impossible to choose five, sorry for breaking the rules :P)

Trauma Center (both of them)

Broken Sword

Chibi Robo

Hotel Dusk

The 3 Kirby games

Lock's Quest

Legend of Zelda

My thoughts on the DS: To me it is the third best gaming system up to this day, behind the Super Nintendo and the Playstation 2. It has a fantastic library with both first-party and third-party titles. The touch screen was a fantastic idea implemented by Nintendo and it has been used by developers to produce incredible results with games that either offer brand new features or genres that heavily benefit from an easy and fast no navigate interface.

My current top 5

  1. Chinatown Wars
  2. The World Ends With You
  3. Professor Layton and the Curious Village
  4. Mario Kart DS
  5. The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
