Okay well like fifylmnfish said, there's a reccomendation thread but I'll post my top 10 anyways... (I'm not including Super Mario 64 DS because that game is to me a N64 game, but it would definitely be near the top if I said so otherwise).
1) Advance Wars Dual Strike: If you've played the other ones then you'll know what you're in for, there's an amazing level of depth and the strategic elements in the game are awesome. I've played it probably around 60 hours but I still have a long way to go to finish everything, it's an excellent game that is definitely worth it. They're making a second one too so you should check it out as well.
2) Mario Kart DS: Well to make it blunt, it's probably the best Mario Kart game there is and it really has a ton to offer for anyone. It delivers more than any Mario Kart game has delivered before it, including Online Play, which I've spent countless hours on racing against people from across the world. This game is a definite must buy.
3) New Super Mario Bros.: Really it's old school Mario all over again - this game brings back fantastic memories and is an awesome game to play, you'll definitely want to pick this game up too. Even though it won't last you forever, it's addicting and you'll want to keep coming back.
4) Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: I think this game's taste will vary in every gamer, as it's text driven and it may not be part of your style, but regardless of that, this is a fantastic game that you'll want to check out. The game has an incredibly deep storyline, and investigating, objecting, and living in the fictional court of law is an amazing thing to do. It's not technically impressive, but it doesn't matter in order to be a fantastic game - and this game proves it.
5) Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow: If you've played other Castlevania Games, then you'll know what you're in for because this game is definitely worth it. It's hard to find nowadays, but if you do then do yourself justice and pick this game up, you won't be disappointed. The world and characters are incredibley immersive and the game is just a blast to play through - it's not the longest game, but you'll want to keep playing through it to finish and collect everything.
6) Elite Beat Agents: Really it's one of the most original and addicting games you'll find on the market, this game is full of great humor and style that you'll definitely want to look into. There's more difficulty levels to add to the level of replay value that will keep you coming for more, and this game is something that really can only be done on the Nintendo DS - a definite must have as well.
7) Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time: Well being a fan of it's predecessor for the GBA, I picked this game up knowing what I'd be in for and it's a fantastic ride. The game is full of humor and the platforming and combat is deep - both reminiscent of Paper Mario and Super Mario RPG, this game is something you should look into, too.
8) Metroid Prime Hunters: While not (thought would it be too far a streth to say 'nearly') as good as the games on the GameCube and Wii, MPH really proves that FPS games can work on the Nintendo DS and this game stands as a good example. The online multiplayer is what you'd be investing for in this game, as the single player is not very long, and rather repetitive. Regardless, it's a great and beautiful game that you should definitely look into.
9) Meteos: Again, another original title that probably couldn't be done on any other platform, Meteos is a great puzzle game that is surprisingly addictive. The intuitive controls deliver a ton of action, and the more you play through the game, the more hectic it gets. An original and fantastic game.
10) Kirby: Canvas Curse: The last game on my list is one that I feel is a tad underappreciated for its originality, and just how fun the game is. This is the first 'real' Nintendo DS game that I purchased and it was a fantastic ride, and still is. The game controls very well with the stylus, and setting aside Kirby's cuteness, you'll find this game to be a fantastic and engaging adventure.
I have reviews for some of these games on my blog so look into them if you'd like, but other notable games that I don't have are:
- Nintendogs, Animal Crossing, Castlevania 2, Trauma Center (I have the Wii version and it's a blast), Final Fantasy III, Mario Hoops, and plenty more. I hope you'll enjoye your Nintendo DS if you make that purchase!
These are Ds games either that I have played or currently own.
