How did you come across your Wii? I found mine by accident.
I work for a certain store (begins with a W) and it was payday and I was looking in the electronics department to find a replacement for my broken MP3 player. Being picky, I gave up on my search and stopped by the electronics department to look a some games. I went down the line...PS3...PS2...PSP...Xbox 360...Xbox...then theWii section...
I noticed two boxes at the bottom of the cabinet.
"Oh, those are Nintendo Wii systems..."
*Silence*
"....O_O Holy Crud!"
Here I was, Not even looking for one, not concerning myself to even get one. I had just gotten a 360 for Xmas. I had the mind set of getting it late this year, maybe next year, didn't even really want to look for one...and just my luck I was staring at the box that I would soon pay for 5 minutes later.
So, I got a Wii. Without even trying.
Later that day, I soon picked up Red Steel very cheaply at EB Games for only 22 bucks.Not the greatest game no, but a game that will help me get used to the controls at a very cheap cost.
Read my profile for how i got mine. Short version: I was first in line at 10:00a.m. at Meijer and waited 14 hours for midnight (sun, nov 19) when i bought it along with zelda. It felt soooooooooo great :D :D
An impulse buy eh? I also bought mine at Wal-Mart, but had to go through a lot to get it. Good thing I didn't have school that morning since that's when they got their shipment. Full story is in my blog.
i got mine at best buy 1 week after the launch i got really lucky because there was about over 20 people in line and i went to the front to ask how many will they be getting and they said 12 so i went back in line just in case they got more and the dude that was in front of me said they will be getting 60 so i stayed and luckly they got 63 in and i was number 23 :) wii ftw!!
the night of january 27th "hey mom their getting wiis in tommorow morning at target, WINK WINK"-me " ahh I dont think so, im not getting up 7:00AM on a sunday morniing"-mom "oh okay....."-me Morning January 28th-8:00AM-Im sitting in my room playing XBL (I wake up early)-mom walks into my room "Guess what I got" shows me the wii box "HOLY SH1T"
I live in a caribbean country...were there were only a few Wiis on stores...and at high prices. So I contacted my grandma' in Puerto Rico...and she agreed to look for it. December passed, january passed, and no Wiis...
Then... one day... she was paying a bill on something.. and she spotted a vg store... so just for rutine..she went inside and asked for the shippment date, and the store clerk said. Oh... we have one left. There was my Wii. The games and controllers she bought them in different stores.
mine is probally the craziest one Starts out with my older brother winning $500 to the mall, he went one weekend asking around for wii's but no one had them. Sooo he decides to check in F.Y.E. [ for your entertainment] and the employee said they were geting a shipment that day. So my brother stays in there and looks at some movies the suddenly, the the worker yell WE GOT WII'S picks one up and comes home  :P
Went to Walmart on launch day around 3AM and was about 6th in line, but for a small-ish town, our Walmart got a surprising amount of systems (like 25 or something, compared to an EB getting 10, and that was inside a city).
My friends at work were all eagerly trying to fnd a pre-order offer. One day one of my rfiends ducked his head into my office and says 'walmart.com, pre-order, now, bundle.' and then ran back to his office. I go there, pre-order the bundle (which had like 6-8 games you had to buy) and got it. Within 10 minutes the offer was no longer on the site.
I got my Wii about a week after launch with UPS. Walmart ended up not being able to supply all but three of the pre-ordered games so they gave me credit (which was fine with me).

I hope my story isn't too long. The starting day was a Thursday and I got my Wii on a Friday.
My story starts out with a staff member at my school saying he would pick one up for me at the miltary base store over here, but that didn't work out. So I was searching searching searching until one of my friends who work at our local Kmart told me that they were getting shipments the next day at 10am. Unfortunately that was a school day, so I had a big arguement with my mom so I could stay home and skipped school. As soon as that finished, I got ready and had to walk my but about 2miles in the hot caribbean sun to go to Kmart early. (I started walking at around 7:40 and got there around 8:36, I walked rested, ran, jogged.) When I finally got the the electronics section, the lady there didn't know WTF I was talking about, so I had to take 15minutes and explain to her what the Wii is. After waiting about an hour and a half, another woman took the register, so I had a crack at it with her, she somewhat knew what I was talkling about, so she went and checked the back and when she came back BEHOLD! She had my Wii in her hand. So, she rung it up on the cash register.... $324.99, I paid it. After that price, I had no money for anything else, so I quickly got out of the store and walked back home. As soon as I got home I busted opened that box, set up the Wii and played Wii Sports Boxing and Baseball till my arms hurt. Fast forward to earlier this week, a senior at my school and I were talking about the Wii and its games. All of a sudden he asked me what games I have, I told him only Wii Sports, so he asked my if I wanted to borrow Twilight Princess since he completed it. I said YES! very quickly. So 2 days after, he lent me TP. Now today (the weekend), I went to the Post office to send money orders for some items I bought off ebay (I don't have a credit card, neither do my parents) On the way back, I figured I would stop at Kmart, so I did. While there I impulse bought a 2000 Point Wii Points Card ($32 here) and a ****c Controller ($25.99 here). When I got home, I bought Gunstar Heroes (Genesis/800points) and Legend of Zelda: OoT (N64/1000points). Both play well with the ****c controller. So thats my Wii story!
Everything here in the islands cost a hella more than its supposed to, but there is not much I could do about it, I want my stuff NOW, especially in the case of the Wii.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed my story. And another thing, blame Gamespot for all the uneeded ***'s.
