Reported at GoNintendo and Nintendo3DSBlog

Rumors have it some gamestop employees have been telling customers, or heard saying there is a planned 3DS bundle with some sort of Zelda title.

Of course, you can get your hopes up for a $249 3DS Bundle with Ocarina of Time 3D (but mind you OOT 3D comes out Spring 2011 in Japan, so its going to miss launch by 1-2 months there, so it likely will miss launch by a month or two here as well) but getting your hopes up may not be good, because I imagine this will be a Metroid Prime Hunters deal, where the 3DS comes with Ocarina of Time 3D Demo. (which why would that matter if there is a special bundle with the demo if Nintendo plans on having downloadable demo's next gen? Ugh, are we really going to still get demo carts?)

Don't get me wrong, I'd love this bundle and it would totally justify the $249 price, with a $40 3DS game

But if any game is bundled, it probably will and should be Star Fox 64 or Pilot Wings, because both those IPs aren't nearly as popular as they should be, making every one of the first 5-10 million 3DS owners play their game will help revive the IPs

Oh dear, I just thought about the song in Hyrule Shops playing through my DS speakers, now I'm even more excited! (the song from Ocarina of Time, when you're in a shop, that is)

3DS Bundled with Zelda would be sweet. But I'm reluctant to believe GS employees. The ones by my house get all their news from Game Informer.

well it depends when we get the 3DS here in the U.S. IF what u predicted is true (a march 13 release date) then it would seem reasonable to get the full game. I mean Spring 2011 might have just been a general indicator of when it might come out. doesn't necessarily have to be in spring.

I said months ago I thought it would come bundled with Pilot Wings, and I still think that - for the reason Darth mentioned.

It is going to use Miis, and the 3DS really needs to come with a game that uses them just like the Wii needed Wii Sports.

This would be as awesome as the Mario Bros bundle for the NES. I don't think it's true though, I won't get my hopes up.

Now, again I doubt this happens, It'd be awesome

I'm thinking Pilot Wings or Star Fox bundled in, probably PilotWings, and the Mii's part is a great point.

I think Japan would pay 25,000 Yen to have the 3DS and nothing else really, but I think EU and NA would need a little more convincing, so making a bundle would be a good idea for a $249 price tag.

If history repeats itself that could very well happen. Although I think pilotwings would be the one to include if they include a full on retail game.

Who said anything about a bundless pack in EU or NA? I was saying Japan would pay $300 for a 3DS with nothing else, but I doubt USA and Europe will pay $250 (and its european equivalent) for simply a 3DS and some silly cards (and a 2GB SD Card when 16GB cards can be had online for $15-$30)

I'd think a game packed in all units at $250 would make the sell easier to consumers, as I imagine Nintendo is going to have a rough time selling the handheld with such a high price. Sure it will sell, but i can't imagine it hitting Wii or DS numbers at that price. Also Nintendo often charged $150 for DS bundles that included $35 games, thus giving a $15 discount on the total package. It wouldn't be unlike them

I think a $229 price point could slip in there if there is nothing with the system (other than the already mentioned throw away matierals like a small SD card and some AR cards)

I mean clearly Nintendo plans to change up the bundles, they are including a 2GB SD card with it, but if they really wanted to stress the memory why wouldn't the just put 2GB more memory built into the unit itself? They probably plan to take out the SD card bundle, put something else in its place from time to time.

$250 is a harder sell for a 3DS, but $250 for a 3DS and a game that has the image of being a $40 game, makes it a better deal

Meh. There's no way they wouldn't announce if a new Zelda game were launching with the 3DS, so this must be for Ocarina of Time 3DS, which doesn't interest me much. I know it's like the best game of all time, but I beat it a long time ago, and I own it on GCN (Thank you, Collector's Edition disc).

I'll probably get a 3DS anyway though, so I guess Nintendo shouldn't really care.

Have we all accepted that Ocarina of Time 3DS is going to be a $40 retail game? That potential price point irks me quite a bit, given that the vanilla N64 version is going for $10 on the Wii. Somewhat improved 3D graphics don't merit a 4x price hike. :|

  1. POTENTIAL PRICE
  2. Hopefully they add more to the game (without ruining it) if they expect full price.
  3. I....would still....buy it :?

$249 isn't even that bad for a new handheld, new technology, beefed up specs and all that good stuff. I was expecting $299 myself but if its $249, all the better. If its $249 with a GAME, all the better than better... or something.

Not just that but Wii Sports was there to show off its motion sensing capabilities as well. For the 3DS it will be showing off its 3D tech, motion sensing/gyrosensing, mii feature and whatever else.

they would lose money period if they bundled it with the 3DS. ocarina of time would probably sell really good as a stand alone game. games like pilot wings or steel diver would be better to bundle with the 3DS because their sales wouldnt match any of the other games.

same could be said for super mario world and super mario 64. the reason behind bundles is to put an attractive game to boost sales, not add a random game that wouldn't sell well on its own *cough*wiiplay*cough*

Now, again I doubt this happens, It'd be awesome

I'm thinking Pilot Wings or Star Fox bundled in, probably PilotWings, and the Mii's part is a great point.

I think Japan would pay 25,000 Yen to have the 3DS and nothing else really, but I think EU and NA would need a little more convincing, so making a bundle would be a good idea for a $249 price tag.

darth-pyschosis
You don't bundle things with unpopular games at launch, you bundle them with games that will sell the hardware; that's not Star Fox. Not to mention Star Fox isn't even going to be playable at Nintendo World in a couple weeks, so I doubt its anywhere near ready. A Zelda bundle and something like Nitendogs+Cats would probably be the best option outside of a new Mario game.

You run into the problem, can't bundle with a popular title, that takes away from software sales, but if you bundle it with a less popular, but still known, title then it could reinvigorate the consumer interest in that IP

Which is exactly what Star Fox and PilotWings need

the price is ridiculous.... sigh... the only way we can lower the price is if we make up a news report of the price of 150 for the 3DS, make it believable, and spread it across the internet and if enough people read this and believe this, they will demand such a price and Nintendo will lower it.. good idea?

Easiest and best way to reduce the price is to not buy it.

Hopefully consumers and gamers can bring themselves to do that.

again, super mario world and super mario 64 say hi. hell, even tetris was bundled with the game boy. you need system sellers to be bundled. bundles are not to sell software, they exist to sell hardware. so you pick a game that would obviously sell billions of units and tie it to the system, making the system sell billions. you either do that or bundle with a game that will better showcase the features of the system. nintendo already has 6 AR games built-in, so they don't need that kind of thing.
