can anyone give me a definitive timeline of the zelda and metroid games? considering how TP is the latest and how MP3 is going to close out this part of the series.

Hahah Zelda timeline? Good luck. There are tons of theories though... but nothing really definitive. The Zelda timeline has been the subject of fan debate for quite a while. Here's the Zelda wikia timeline theory page. It's a bit of a read, but might help you understand the debate a bit.

I'm not too familiar with the Metroid timeline, but I'm pretty sure that one is more definitive. Someone else could probably be helpful with that one. :)

Zelda time line is too confusing, but the Metroid Timeline is this

  • Metroid/ Zero Mission
  • Metroid Prime
  • Metroid Prime Hunters
  • Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
  • Metroid Prime 3: corruption
  • Metroid 2: Return of Samus
  • Super Metroid
  • Metroid Fuzion

There are way to many theories on the Zelda timeline, and unless you really want to waste all your time reading up on them all and then decide which one you like best, I'd suggest that you shouldn't worry about it.

I just dont worry about being a timeline, and see each game standing on its own. Hey, its better not to have a timeline than to have cliffhanger endings every game.

For Zelda go to youtube and search The Legend Of Zelda Retrospective. It's made by Gametrailers and it looks pretty good. It's in six different parts. Part six is the timeline one.

I dont see why everyone makes a big deal about the timelines. If the stories were connected, that would be a different story, but in Zelda and Metroid, it doesnt really matter.

Careful, post a question like this and somebody will give you a 12 page essay on the Zelda Timeline.

The video I said about is about 12 minutes long and it goes into pretty good detail. I recommend it.

Metroid has a very defenitive story/timeline it is in no way questioned. The Zelda timeline however is a different story its a mess that can't really be confirmed one way or another.

uhh.... they kinda are connected..

if you played all the games, then you would notice parts of the plot that stem from past games, even if they arent direct sequels.. its true that you can understand whats going on without having played any of the other games, but if you did play the others, then it makes the story much more enjoyable

I dont think that the game designers had a timeline in mind although some of the games may have had simalairities that could suggest one. But it is fun to try and understand one.
