I'm so tired of Hip Hop. Especially these days, every beat sounds the same and every rapper is sounding the same as well. Yeah, we might have occasional gems from time to time, but I'm just so tired of it now. I'm still bumping my old nintees jams, but I've been listening to alot of other music too. These days I'll be listening to Rage Against the Machine and The Prodigy (The Techno Group) just as much as I listen to Mobb Deep and Wu-Tang. I need some good new music that brings agressive energy. I'm still bumping 421 and Red Gone Wild because to me those were two of the albums that really kept Hip Hop alive for me, because they still had that old spirit in them. Nowdays, it's a stupid catch phrase that these candy ass rappers put out. I don't give a damn if you party like a rockstar or your hustling every day. Give me some lyrics and word play I can think about. Music these days just doesn't pump me up. It's sad, because I love hip hop. But damn, it's a dying art...

Although I think the late 80's and mid 90's were the best times of rap music,I still don't change my opinion about the genre being dead. Every type of music has several saviors that keep it stable, even if it doesn't have as many good artists as it used to. I think the mainstream is weakened, but its not so bad to the fact that I shun listening to hip hop:)

I have a large library of old-school and alternative artists I listen to. I own about 12 out of 30 albums I plan to have not counting new albums. I got plenty to listen to. There is a lot of realhip-hop to listen to, a lot! But you have to develop your taste to incorporate a wide range of arists that still put out true hip-hop music.

There have been a ton of great SOUL albums coming out these past two years MAYNE!!! Hit up albumbase, and check 'em out 8) Rap is crap, soul is gold :-*

Hell, I'm jamming D'angelo's "Voodoo Outtakes" right now, which is pretty much 20% D'Angelo singing, and 80% instrumentals that didn't make his "Voodoo" album. It's ownage. As for hip hop, only ish I've been jamming is Pharoahe Monch/Brother Ali/Sean P, and I haven't jammed Brother Ali, or Sean P's albums in a month or so...and Pharoahe's doesn't even get regular play from me.

well for me, it's just more and more hip-hop. For instance these past two months it's been: Tha Liks, UGK, Showbiz/A.G., Black Milk, and M.O.P under heavy rotation

It will get better, major labels are going to topple within the next few years, and the rise of independent labels will rise. Thats when I think music and the industry will be back to how it used to be.

ya, there is actually some new stuff coming out that i will most definitly pick up, like 8 diagrams and detox or the carter 3 maybe. Lots of big name records that will hopfully push this generic mims and D4L s*** out of the way.

Hip-Hop is so musically diverse because of sampling, maybe that's why I've not got a tired of it yet.

See but that's the thing, hip-hop is built on sampling. I love it, but I like to hear where those samples come from and then that leads me into listening to other genres and going on from there.

You're right. That's why I copped a James Brown compilation and Superfly. I'll probably move on to Soul next, when I get the time. Also Hip-Hop kind of prepares you for older Soul and Jazz because it helps you get an ear for that sound.

I'm thinking of getting into jazz in a couple years after I found all the hip-hop I need which will take a while and I will still be listening for as long as I have ears. And I'm talking about Blue Note jazz too. I love 'em both and soul and funk and raggae.

This year I played the hell out of Black Milk, Devin the Dude, Brother Ali, and Sean P's new albums. I've yet to just be blown away by an album yet this year though and I am growing tired of all the garbage... Too many candy rappers seem to be at the top, too much candy is no good so now I'm closing the shop (c) Phife. But I doubt I will ever just stop listening to rap. I've been expanding my tastes in other genres too in the meantime.... I'm actually bumpin a Sly & the Family Stone album right now, not rap...

This has been a terrible year for hip hop so far.. I find myself listening to early to mid 90's rock more and more while I wait for something amazing to come out. The new Pharoahe is cool, but I'm hoping for much better out of Common's new joint. Hopefully he delivers.

in the last year/year & a half i feel like i've been drifting further and further from being only a hip-hop listener...rap used to be pretty much the only thing i listened to, but I just feel like it's a dying art form (in the mainstream anyway). I haven't listened to the radio in probably 2 years, because most of the songs are pretty much unlistenable for me, this goes for rock too, current rock is pretty much as bad as current rap. for this reason, i've been listening to a bunch of classic rock and blues lately (eric clapton, stevie ray vaughan, etc.) and i just find it to be so much more quality than modern day music, it's crazy. i still have hope for this year though...Common, Kanye, Kweli, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Ghostface/DOOM, etc. could still make this year a great one for hip-hop if they can all deliver on their albums

No. Same here. Even at one time, I stop litterally stop listening to it for months... until I heard "Kick, Push" from you know who. I still listen a lot to it now but just not as much. I don't buy as much CDs neither.

I have that album, too. I still listen to Hip-Hop, just not a lot. I would listen to the old ones, but I just get tired. I currently listen to R&B right now. I got R. Kelly's Double Up album.
