I need lyrics *Picks up Food & Liquor off the table*damelokidd124My favorite songs by Lupe Fiasco arent even on that CD... Steady Mobbin' and Slow Down are my favorites...but theyre on mixtapes and not the actual CD... Steady Mobbin is so much better than anything on that Cd...
You need a good mix of lyrics and beats, but if you have one without the other, this is what tends to happen:
Initially, you will like the track with the hot beat, but the beat will play itself out after you listen to it for awhile.
And the track with the great lyrics and bones beat will get slept on, but one day it will grow on you, but it could take months before it hits you and you appreciate the track.
At least that's how it works in my case.

I don't give a **** what you're talking about, or what you're talking about it over, so long as you sound cool on it.
Aye exactly! A good beat always gets booring afterawhile where as great lyrics will last for much longer. You need a good mix of lyrics and beats, but if you have one without the other, this is what tends to happen:

If it came down to it I'd pick beat over lyrics unless the lyrics were ridiculously good and overuled the crapiness of the beat. Because in Hip-Hop I think beats are generally better than lyrics. Other than the few God MCs whose lyrics would murder a metrenome.
I think it would be better to pick an artist and ask "beats or lyrics?"
choosing beat over lyrics in hip-hop genre is kinda wack. if everyone would love to listen to amazing beats but terrible lyrics then rappers like yung joc would be called a god mc. there are som expections tho so i dono.mal_251
i'm a lyrics kind of guy.yes....they definately do... i dont listen to the radio any more either....every rap song they have on it is by some retards like Little John, Akon and all those people....they all suck.. i cant understand why anybody would like them...i really dont....there are better songs with better lyrics, beat, and instrumentals than all of the songs on the radio....yet nobody has ever heard of them...
i first discovered this when i listened to aceyalones album "book of human language" my all time favorite
edit: n the fact i dont listen 2 the radio nemore cuz most emcees on the radio need to get pistol whip into admittin how dumb they are

I would listen to instrumentals over poetry sessions anyday.TheBigTicket21Word. There can be songs that are good that have either great lyrics and a crappy beat or vice versa, but if you take one side of the equation away COMPLETELY then it's a different story. Unless the MC has an incredible flow then the accapella is gonna get boring pretty quickly regardless of the quality of the lyrics being spit. Meanwhile, instrumentals have a lot more replay value for the most part and aren't gonna get boring as quickly. Advantage: beats.
Both. There are some songs with good lyrics and a terrible beat and vice versa though as well. So it depends on the track I guess.RR88
