ugk - ugk 4 life
i'll add a pic of the cover and stuff later. i think it's a cIassic because it has good songs and it's their last album. i don't care that it's recent because it sounds like vintage ugk so it'll age fine.

uh....no, but then again, I'm not that big of a UGK fan (never can get into their music).fat_rob
Not even Ridin' Dirty? I listened to that for the first time when I was in love with Eastcoast stuff and hated a lot of southern rap, and still loved it... I didn't think that anyone could not be intrigued by Bun B on that album... his whole performance was just so accessible... especially with the album starting with One Day (the most accessible UGK song probably...)

I didn't hate it, but I was not enamored with it like most other people. Some people just do not like certain artists and UGK is that group for me...Bun B is dope on some songs (some of his guest verses are spectacular), but whole songs of Bun B and Pimp C make me feel like I'm listening Forrest Gump rap...[QUOTE="fat_rob"]uh....no, but then again, I'm not that big of a UGK fan (never can get into their music).elpooz

WORD. Ridin Dirty converted me from a southern rap hater to a lover. Now it's my favourite region after the east.I'm a huge fan of UGK as I have stated several times on this board. They're my all time favorite rappers/rap group, but I am not sure how I feel about nominating this CD before some of their better albums. IMO it's not even their best stuff. It does have that older early 90s UGK sound to it but it's still fairly new. This might be too soon. Had you nominated what I consider their best...Super Tight...this would be a definite yes.Â
Even so I will say YES due to my love for what I consider the best, and that is UGK.
Note to all: If you liked Ridin Dirty, you need to give Super Tight a listen if you have not already. It's their second album and every song on it is classic. UGK at their best.Â
UGK 4 Life is good it's way too early to even call it a classic
someone needs to nominate Super Tight though, that's a definite classic and my favorite UGK album as well
andyboiii
That's actually the album I intend on nominating when it's my go around.Â
Emphatic "NO."
Like fat_rob, I respect UGK but am not enamored by them. This album was just recently released and really has nothing in particular to back it up as a legitimate contender for classic status. There are plenty of more deserving albums.Â
I think we're good to move on now, it's too soon to figure this one outToriko42yeah. if your turn is next, then go ahead
Â
this album is way better than a piece of strange which is pretty recent.rubbersouIYeah, and I disagreed with the fact that it was even nominated. A lot of stupid recent albums have been put up for nomination

As for this album, I definetely vote yes. For a few reasons ... really, I could write about this album all day, but here's just a few:
1. It has everything that makes a classic a classic ... amazing music, amazing verses and flow, and historical importance. So what if it's new - who gives a flying ****? It would be easy to see that this album is a classic in any era; the fact that it's coming out and no other album this year is remotely this good should only reinforce how great this album is.
2. I realize this is jumping the gun a bit, but all signs point to this being the last classic major label rap album. Seriously, think about it - Jay ain't gonna release another classic. E-40 next album is probably going to be his best in years, but it still probably won't be a classic. All the other dudes from the 90's are washed up at best, and recent efforts by the majors to push new talent have been sad at best (Asher Roth?). I really cannot see another major label release this good coming out in the future unless something major changes ...

that comment had more to do with their southern drawl then their lyrics...[QUOTE="IsThisIt_basic"][QUOTE="fat_rob"][QUOTE="elpooz"][QUOTE="fat_rob"]uh....no, but then again, I'm not that big of a UGK fan (never can get into their music).fat_rob

I won't argue with you...cause there is absolutely no point  We will not agree on this one...period lolfat_rob
lol; it would've made for a pretty funny argument, at least ...

lol oh, no doubt....wait rob... do you think Blu is a better rapper than Bun B :? ?elpoozHmmm, I'm really hesitant to say that with any degree of certainty. I like Blu's lyrics MUCH more than Bun B's and I enjoy Blu's music much more, but idk if Blu is a better rapper overall. Blu really only has one great album, bunch of great singles, and some dope mixtapes (not mentioning his average/below average stuff). Â
Bun has a wealth of material that is much more consistent than Blu's and even though I am not a fan of Bun per say...I do not think he's a bad rapper (just not particularly dope). I do like Below The Heavens more than any UGK or Bun album I've cared to listen to though, but again that's really just my preference...I simply am not a huge fan of UGK in general.Â
