Rap newcomer J. Cole has downplayed Drake's assertion that he is the next Nas and said his future in hip-hop is too unpredictable to make comparisons just yet.

Cole thinks he has a lot to prove before he can be given such accolades.

"Comparisons are natural," Cole said in an interview. "But in this particular instance, and no disrespect to [Drake's] opinion, because that's how he feels, but I feel like it's too early. You can't call things like that, that early. You can't say I'm Nas because, look, Nas was in the game for 16 years. What if I'm not here next year? What if you're not here next year? I don't think you can say stuff like that this early, but I understand what people are saying. At his status right now, he's the most talked-about guy in the game. The Nas comparison is like, 'He gets a little bit beyond the surface,' but I feel like when it comes to those comparisons, it's way to early. And you never know, 10 years from now, I could be Jay." Don't really see what the problem was with him saying that:? Yeah its kind of early to be making opinions like that but at the same time that isn't really an overexaggerating thing to say. I don't think I've heard one J. Cole song that I've disliked yet. Fame-wise,doubt it,but lyric-wise,its a possibility.

Well I took a research on J.Cole since I've never heard of him until what I saw on this topic. He's not bad and he actually is better than all these Mainstream phonies. But comparing him to Nas is a strange analogy. Would've fit better if J.Cole was compared to Papoose or Fabolous for instace. But Nas? Illmatic eats him.

dont get me wrong...i like J Cole a whole lot.. I just still think it's a bit early to say things like that when he hasn't released his 1st album.

Also personally i don't like labeling people as "next nas" or any other rapper. it's never made sense to me

At least J Cole is humble about it, dude is dope.

Drake doesn't know what he's talking about, but really, did anyone think he was some hip hop genius?

co-sign. I saw Cole about a month ago, and dude just killed it. I've only been to four shows total, but I thought Cole was by far my favorite, ever. The energy was INSANE, and I had a blast...plus I was legit front row.

Same, I was basically front row at Cole's concert, couple people back. There wasn't that many peeps at the show and some people were hating on him at first, but he eventually won the crowd over and peeps were clammering for autographs after the show. Cole that dude. He performed the single off his album "Who Dat" song is hella dope with some crazy punchlines. And the beat KNOCKS.
